- Funeral services were held Tuesday
afternoon at the Milton Junction Seventh Day
- Baptist church for Miss Mercy GARTHWAITE,
76, who died Saturday in Pinehurst sanatorium where she had been
a patient for a short time. She had been in failing health
for several years but had lived in her home in Milton Junction
until early last summer, when she went to Janesville.
- Mercy Elizabeth GARTHWAITE,
daughter of Orson C. and Susan E. PIERCE
- GARTHWAITE,
was born May 12, 1875, in Milton township, near Newville. When
she was 6 years old her parents moved to Milton Junction. She
was active in the Seventh Day Baptist church, having been secretary
of the Ladies Aid society for 25 years.
- She is survived by three nephews, Harlow
B. GARTHWAITE, Tracy City, Tenn.,
- Lester B. GARTHWAITE and Francis
B. GARTHWAITE, both of Rockford.
- Miss Kathryn HULL presented
the song service. The Rev. Kenneth Van Horn
- officiated and burial was in the Milton
Junction cemetery. Pallbearers were Lawrence ASTIN,
Sr., Carl GRAY, Oscar HARTMAN, Leland SHAW,
J. E. McWILLIAM and Floyd C. VINCENT. [Thursday
