Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Milton Junction Seventh Day
Baptist church for Miss Mercy GARTHWAITE, 76, who died Saturday in Pinehurst sanatorium where she had been a patient for a short time. She had been in failing health for several years but had lived in her home in Milton Junction until early last summer, when she went to Janesville.
Mercy Elizabeth GARTHWAITE, daughter of Orson C. and Susan E. PIERCE
GARTHWAITE, was born May 12, 1875, in Milton township, near Newville. When she was 6 years old her parents moved to Milton Junction. She was active in the Seventh Day Baptist church, having been secretary of the Ladies Aid society for 25 years.
She is survived by three nephews, Harlow B. GARTHWAITE, Tracy City, Tenn.,
Lester B. GARTHWAITE and Francis B. GARTHWAITE, both of Rockford.
Miss Kathryn HULL presented the song service. The Rev. Kenneth Van Horn
officiated and burial was in the Milton Junction cemetery. Pallbearers were Lawrence ASTIN, Sr., Carl GRAY, Oscar HARTMAN, Leland SHAW, J. E. McWILLIAM and Floyd C. VINCENT. [Thursday edition, p. 10]
