Funeral services for Howard C[lifford] STEWART, 76, were held Monday afternoon
in the Milton Seventh Say Baptist church, the Rev. Elmo F. Randolph officiating. Burial was in Milton cemetery. Pallbearers were Dr. G. E. CROSLEY, D. N. INGLIS, B. R. ROOD, C. A. NELSON, F. B. COON and W. G. POLAN. Kenneth BABCOCK sang two selections accompanied by Miss Betty DALAND. Mmes. L. C. SHAW, E. E. SHAW and Arthur DRAKE had charge of the flowers.
Mr. STEWART, a teacher most of his life, died Saturday in Edgerton Memorial
hospital.
He was born March 11, 1876, in Camden, N.J., and moved to West Hallock, Ill.,
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh C. STEWART, in 1880. He was graduated from Milton College in 1904. He taught in Illinois, was principal of the Plover, Ia., high school for two years and also was principal at Clearwater and Lakeville, Minn. In 1930 he took a sales position with the Fond du Lac School Supply Co., retiring in July, 1950, and moving to Milton. He was married Aug. 7, 1907, to Gertrude CAMPBELL.
Surviving are his wife; a son Hugh of Racine; a daughter Lucille in Pekin, China; two
grandchildren, Donald and Mary PU, Pekin, China; a brother, Wilbur, Columbus, Ohio; and a sister, Mrs. Clarence LAWTON, Albion.

Columbus, O.; Eugene STEWART, Chillicothe, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Clem CROWLEY and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh STEWART, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Ben WILLE, Edgerton; Albert WILLE, Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Zuriel CAMPBELL, Kent, Wash.; Miss Margaret CAMPBELL, Miss Verna LEIN, Waupaca; Victor CAMPBELL, Excelsior, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard GOULD, Glencoe, Minn.; and Mr. and Mrs. T. Elizabeth Althea VAN HORN KNIGHT, 76 years of age, died at the home of her
son, Wilferd KNIGHT, Milton, Monday evening, July 28.
Born June 7, 1876, at Welton, Iowa, she was married to John W. KNIGHT in 1896.
Soon after their marriage they homesteaded in Oklahoma where they lived until Mr. KNIGHT's accidental death in 1921.
For the past 29 years Mrs. KNIGHT was resided in Milton and in her later years has
been in declining health. In her youth she affiliated with the Seventh Day Baptist church at Welton, Iowa, and since that time has had membership in the Garwin, Iowa, Gentry, Ark, and Milton, Seventh Day Baptist churches.
Surviving Mrs. KNIGHT are her only son, Wilferd, of Milton, and two grandchildren,
Mrs. Theodore SNYDER, of Janesville, and John KNIGHT, Milton.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon in the Milton Seventh Day
Baptist church, the Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph, minister, officiating. [Thursday edition, p. 3]

Merritt Darwin VAN HORN was born in Welton, Iowa October 2, 1899, the son of
Leonard and Clara VAN HORN.
On September 1, 1926 he was married to Una Louise CLARKE at Milton. Nearly
all of their married life was spent in Southern Wisconsin, their home being in Whitewater.
He was a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church and a former member of
the Odd Fellows lodge. He attended Milton college for one year.
He had been in failing health for the last six months, and on June 24 entered Wisconsin
General hospital, where he passed away on Thursday evening July 24.
Surviving are his wife, Una; a son Donald and a granddaughter Lynette of San Diego,
Calif.; a sister, Reeva, Mrs. Ernest SAUNDERS of Edgerton; and four brothers: Irel of Clinton, Ia.; Loyal of Kent, Wash.; Kenneth of Lanark, Ill.; and Burleson of Milton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by two brothers, Floyd and Glenn.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Carroll L. Hill on Monday, July 28 at
Skindingsrude and Lein Funeral Home in Whitewater.
Pallbearers were: William FRIEDEL, Willard THAYER, Eugene WAGIE, Lauren
LAWTON, Herbert ZABLE and Leonard HOLMAN.
Burial was in Milton cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 3]
