- Funeral services were held this afternoon
for Dr. Lester M[axson] BABCOCK, 79,
- Milton, who was long prominent in Rock
county civic affairs and a dentist in Milton for 25 years.
Dr. BABCOCK died Tuesday afternoon at Round Lake, Ill.,
following a long illness.
- Dr. BABCOCK served as president
of the Tri-County YMCA board from 1926 to
- 1941. He was named president of the
State YMCA in 1928. He was also a past president of the Rock
County Dental Society.
- He was active in the Milton Seventh
Day Baptist church; served on the graded school
- board and the village board; had been
a director of the Bank of Milton and on the board of trustees
of Milton College. He had been a member of the IOOF, Rock and
Walworth Dental Society, Wisconsin Dental Society, Janesville
Rotary club, and Milton Civic club.
- The son of Granville and Harriet BISHOP
BABCOCK, he was born June 13, 1873,
- in Garland, Ia. After graduating
from Milton college in 1898, he taught school for three years
and then attended the Chicago College of Dental Surgery, graduating
in May 1904. He was married June 13, 1899, to Mary Ann CRUMB.
- Dr. BABCOCK practiced dentistry
in Jackson Center, O., for 10 years and in 1914
- purchased a practice in Milton. He
sold his practice to Dr. F. M. BRANCH in April, 1949.
- Dr. BABCOCK was first named
to the Rock county YMCA board of directors in
- 1918. He was elected recording secretary
in 1920 and was named president in 1926.
- Surviving are his wife; three daughters,
Ruth, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Chicago, and
- Helen, Waukesha; and a sister, Mrs.
G. I. HURLEY, Eugene, Ore. A son, Hubert, preceded him
in death.
- The funeral was held at 2 p.m. today
in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church. Burial
- was in Milton cemetery. [Thursday
