- R[obert] V[ernon] HURLEY, 72,
of 941 S. Midvale Blvd., Madison, former Dane
- county agricultural agent and lifelong
worker for the betterment of farmers, died Tuesday at a Madison
hospital after a long illness.
- Mr. Hurley HURLEY county service
in November 1936, when he was appointed to
- fill the position of L. J. MERRIAM,
who resigned. Previously he had been county agent in Lafayette
county.
- Before becoming the first county agent
in Lafayette county, Mr. HURLEY had taught
- vocational agriculture at West Allis
and Milton high schools for about eight years.
- He operated a 200-acre farm at Milton
for about seven years before going into
- extension work.
- Mr. HURLEY was born in Humboldt,
Neb., and was married at Milton on July 27,
- 1910, to Lyda E. NELSON of Milton.
- He was graduated from Milton College
in 1909, and did graduate work at the
- University of Wisconsin afterward.
He was a member of the First Baptist church, Madison, and a
former member of both the Madison and Darlington Kiwanis clubs.
- Surviving are his wife; three daughters,
Mrs. George STEVENSON, Darlington,
- Candace HURLEY, Ames, Ia., and
Mrs. Franklin BRADLEY, Evansville, a son ????bert W. HURLEY
Milwaukee; a brother, Dr. George HURLEY, Eugene, Ore;
two sisters, Cora HEMPHILL, North ????, Neb., and Mrs.
Jenni???? ????, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and ??? grandchildren.
- Funeral services will be held at 1:30
p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, in the Fratschi funeral
- home, with the Rev. Alfred W. Sw????
officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. [Thursday,
