- Mrs. Nettie I. BURDICK, 90,
widow of the Rev. Willard D. BURDICK, a Seventh
- Day Baptist pastor, died Monday morning
after several years of failing health.
- The former Isaphena Genette WEST
was born in Utica, Wis., Dec. 5, 1865, the
- youngest of four children of William
B. and Isaphena BURDICK WEST, long-time residents
of Milton Junction. She attended district school, then took
a teacher's course in the State Normal School, Whitewater, graduating
in January 1885. Later she studied for two years in Milton
College, graduating from the teacher training course in 1891.
- When she was 12 years old, she was
baptized by the Rev. J. L. HUFFMAN and
- joined the Utica Seventh Day Baptist
Church.
- On April 18, 1892, she was married
to Willard D. BURDICK. In 1893 they started
- their first pastorate in Jackson Center,
Ohio. She served as the busy wife of a pastor in several Seventh
Day Baptist churches. For a number of years they served as
leaders in various boards of the Seventh Day Baptist denomination.
- In 1938 he retired from active ministry
and they moved to Milton where they made
- their home with their daughter, Miss
Marjorie BURDICK. Mr. BURDICK died in 1948.
- Surviving are the daughter, Marjorie,
and two sons, Prof. W. D. BURDICK and
- Russell BURDICK, all of Milton;
five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, and a number of
nieces, nephews and cousins. There are also three sisters-in-law,
Mrs. A. L. BURDICK and Mrs. G. E. CROSLEY, both
of Milton, and Mrs. William ALLEN, Farina, Ill.
- The Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiated
at the service which was held at 4 p.m.
- Wednesday in the Milton Seventh Day
Baptist church. Kenneth BABCOCK, Milton College, sang
"The City Four Square." Organ music was furnished
by Miss Betty DALAND.
- Burial was in Milton cemetery with
Guy POLAN, Archie HURLEY, Edwin
- MORSE,
A. H. OCHS, B. R. ROOD and J. F. WHITFORD
acting as pallbearers. [Thursday edition, p. 6]
