Rev. Elmo F. Randolph officiated at the last rites for Mrs. G. E. CROSLEY, 86,
which were held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Seventh Day Baptist church, Milton. Kenneth A. BABCOCK sang two selections and Miss Betty DALAND presided at the organ.
Burial was in Milton cemetery, pallbearers being Victor H. HURLEY, George H.
HURLEY, Russell W. BURDICK, Elston E. SHAW, Allison L. BURDICK and William D. BURDICK.
Mrs. Lurana B. CROSLEY, widow of the late Dr. G. E. CROSLEY of Milton,
passed away, Monday, Sept. 9, at Bellevue Place, Batavia, Ill., where she has been a patient for the past year.
Mrs. Lurana Adaline BURDICK CROSLEY, daughter of Russell Dighton and
Luransa CHAMPLIN BURDICK, was born near Freeborn, Minn., August 20, 1871. She lived there with her parents and brothers until 1882, when they moved to Milton for the express purpose of giving the children educational opportunities. Subsequently she graduated from Milton College, receiving her A.B. degree in 1894.
On May 13, 1897, she was married to George E. CROSLEY, and together they
started his medical practice in Algonquin, Ill. In 1899, they moved to Albion, Wis., where the doctor practiced until 1909, when they moved to Milton.
Both Dr. and Mrs. CROSLEY were well known in this section, where he was active
in medical circles. Mrs. CROSLEY was active in women's clubs, working in the local group, and serving in Wisconsin First District, Federation of Women's Clubs, as recording secretary several years, and president from 1920-1922.
Mrs. CROSLEY was a faithful member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Milton,
and acted as editor of the "Woman's Work" of the denominational paper for 19 years. She was a member of art groups and historical societies. She served on the board of the Rock county society, and a life member of the State Historical society. Many were her interests and activities.
Surviving are three sisters-in-law, several nephews, nieces, cousins, girls she mothered,
and a host of friends. [Thursday edition, p. 5]

Mrs. J. Fred WHITFORD died in the Edgerton Memorial hospital Monday after-
noon, Sept. 23, following a long sickness with leukemia. The former Leo Ninette COON was born in Utica, Wis. May 31,1880 and came to Milton to live in 1892. She was married to J. Fred WHITFORD Sept. 2, 1903 and they celebrated their 50th anniversary Sept. 2, 1953.
Mrs. WHITFORD studied piano and voice under Dr. Jairus M. STILLMAN in
Milton College and under Dr. Wardner WILLIAMS in Chicago. She had a beautiful soprano voice and sang in many choral organizations including the Milton Choral Union and the Philharmonic Chorus of 350 voices in Buffalo, N.Y.
She has been a chorister of the church choirs in Milton, Williams Bay and DePew,
Orchard Park and Bolivar, N.Y. At one time she was the supervisor of music in the Orchard Park consolidated schools. For two terms she held the position of president of the Bolivar Sorosis organization, was a member of the Bolivar and Milton Order of the Eastern Star and was vice regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution in Wellsville, N.Y. She served five years as the treasurer of the Women's Board of the Seventh Day Baptist denomination.
Surviving are her husband and one daughter, Captain Geraldine L. WHITFORD,
who served as an Army nurse in the Korean War and is now supervisor of the surgical service in the Army hospital at Valley Forge, Pa. Four children died, Gladys at 16 years of age and a girl and twin boys in infancy.
Funeral services were held in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church at 2 p.m. today
(Thursday) with Pastor Elmo F. Randolph and Professor Leman H. Stringer officiating. Special music was furnished by a quartet, Mrs. Edward ROOD, Miss Bernice TODD, and Professors Herbert L. CROUCH and Kenneth A. BABCOCK with Betty DALAND at the organ. Pallbearers were J. Fred's former colleagues in the college faculty - Professors W. D. BURDICK, L. W. HULETT, D. N. INGLIS, L. C. SHAW, L. M. VAN HORN and B. H. WESTLUND. Interment was in Milton cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
