- Mrs. Lorna A[ugusta] HOWE, 58,
died Friday in St. Clare hospital, Monroe, after a
- long illness.
- The former Lorna SEVERANCE,
daughter of Burton and Anna SEVERANCE,
- was born in Dodge Center, Minn., April
13, 1899. She was married to Ross HOWE in Dodge Center,
in 1919, and they came to Milton within a few years where they
made their home for many years.
- Survivors are one son, Donovan HOWE,
Edgerton; four grandchildren; one sister,
- Mrs. Stanley FOX of Milton;
and three brothers, Lyle SEVERANCE of Janesville, Irving
SEVERANCE of Milton and Howard SEVERANCE, Fond
du Lac. Her husband preceded her in death.
- Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Monday in the Albrecht funeral home, the Rev.
- Elmo Randolph officiating. Burial
was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park, Janesville. Pallbearers
were nephews, namely Dalon and Duard SEVERANCE, Jack and
Jerry SEVERANCE, Robert C. JOHNSON and Dean FOX.

- Stephen S. SUMMERS, 87, former
Milton postmaster died Saturday afternoon,
- Nov. 9, a few hours after being admitted
to Edgerton Memorial hospital.
- Son of William Henry and Mary Ann DONNELLY
SUMMERS, Steve (as he was
- familiarly known) was born March 7,
1870, in Winchester, Ontario, Canada. When his brother, Rev.
William H. SUMMERS came to Milton as pastor of the Methodist
church, Steve came with him and attended Milton College. Here
he met Nellie JACKSON to whom he was married on Jan. 15,
1897. They observed their sixtieth anniversary last January.
- Mr. SUMMERS taught school at
Juda and Monticello - and at intervals, some of his
- former pupils have come to call on
him and his wife.
- He was register of deeds for Green
county from 1902 to 1906; and was bookkeeper
- in the Assembly at Madison from 1907
to 1909.
- He farmed in the Milton area a number
of years but resided in the village during the 14
- years he served as postmaster. However,
he returned to farming for a few years but upon retiring moved
to the present address at 337 Madison avenue.
- Mr. SUMMERS liked to read, had
a very good memory, and could converse on
- almost any subject.
- He was a member of the Milton Congregational
Church and directed the choir for
- many years.
- Survivors are his wife; two sons, Hartley
of Milton and L. Stephen, Rochester, N.Y.;
- four grandchildren; and one adopted
sister, Linda COOK. Eleven brothers and sisters preceded
him in death, also a son, William H. SUMMERS, who died
as a result of an auto accident.
- Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.
Tuesday in the Milton Congretational church, the
- Rev. A. H. Lambright officiating, and
Rev. Carroll L. Hill assisting. Kenneth A. BABCOCK sang
and Mrs. Bettina ALLEN was organist.
- Burial was in Milton cemetery, pallbearers
being Ernest SHELLESTAD, Frank H.
- HOLMES,
E. T. SHUMWAY, Homer GREEN, John MULLEN,
Sr., and Harold RAUSCHER.
- Among the out-of-town relatives and
friends attending were L. S. SUMMERS,
- Rochester, N.Y.; Mr. and Mrs. Howard
McNITT, Minneapolis, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Karl EDWARDSON,
Rockford, Ill; Mr. and Mrs. John AUSTIN and Mr. and Mrs.
Donald JACKSON, Evansville; Mr. and Mrs. Dallas DAVIS,
Elkhorn; Mr. and Mrs. Charles HUBBARD, Beloit; Mr. and
Mrs. Harold RAUSCHER, Janesville. [Thursday edition,
