- Funeral services for Mrs. C. S. SAYRE,
81, who died in Edgerton Memorial
- Hospital last Thursday morning, were
held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church.
The Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiated. Edward ROOD was
organist and two selections were sung by the quartet composed
of Don V. GRAY, Herbert CROUCH, Kenneth BABCOCK
and Robert W. BURDICK. Burial was in Milton Cemetery,
pallbearers being D. N. INGLIS, B. R. ROOD, Charles
NELSON, Justin CAMENGA, Russell BURDICK
and Lawrence LIPPINCOTT.
- Mabel [Anna], daughter of the Rev.
Herman D. and Anna JENNINGS CLARKE,
- was born July 23, 1876, at Unadilla
Forks, N.Y. As a minister's daughter, she lived in Leonardsville,
Churchville, and Independence, N.Y., and in Dodge Center, Minn.,
where the family moved in 1893. On Dec. 29, 1900, her father
performed the ceremony which united her in marriage with the
Rev. Charles S. SAYRE, then pastor of Churches at Berlin,
Coloma and Marquette, Wis.
- In 1906 they returned to Dodge Center,
where the Rev. Mr. SAYRE became the
- pastor. The family moved to Albion
in 1912, assuming the pastorate there. While in Albion they became
well known locally for their duet singing. In 1940 they moved
to Milton, where the Rev. Mr. SAYRE died in 1946.
- She is survived by two sons, Maurice
C., of Tucson, Ariz., and Walter R., of Milton,
- and three grandchildren.
- Mrs. SAYRE had been a member
of the Seventh Day Baptist Church since 1887
- when she was baptized by her father.
- She was active in church and community
life. She had been president of the Woman's
- circle of the Milton Church and had
served as assistant superintendent of the Sabbath school. She
was past president of the Woman's Village Improvement Club, was
active in the Nature Study group and Woman's Christian Temperance

- George Maxson PALMER, who had
spent most of his almost 74 years of life in the
- Milton Junction area, died at [time]
Tuesday in his home on Maryland Drive. His 47 years as a mason
contractor ended in October, 1954, when he became paralyzed following
surgery.
- The son of Andrew B. and Clara BABCOCK
PALMER, he was born in Le Sueur
- County, Minn., on March 31, 1884.
He was married to Anna LAWTON on February 1, 1913, in
Milton Junction. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist
Church.
- Survivors are his wife; two sons, Charles
of Edgerton and William of Milton Junction;
- a daughter, Mrs. Henry PULLMAN,
Hinsdale, Ill., four grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. George
CRANDALL, Milton Junction, Mrs. Edward TYLER and
Mrs. George EKVALL, both of Santa Barbara, Calif.; also
several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his
parents; three brothers, Arthur, Spencer and Dr. Walter PALMER;
and two sisters, Sadie PALMER and Mrs. Earl (Verna) MARYOTT.
- Funeral services are being held at
2 p.m. today (Thursday) in the Albrecht Funeral
- Home, Elder Donald S. Robbins officiating
and being assisted by Elder Albert Johnson. Mr. and Mrs. Orville
OLSON will give the song service. Burial will be in
the Rock River cemetery with the following pallbearers: Elmer
ANDERSON, William HEINIG, E. G. SIMONS,
J. E. MARSHALL, Joe BREYER and Alvin NELSON.

- Mrs. Byron E. COON, resident
of Milton many years, died in a Pittsburgh, Pa.,
- Hospital following a brief illness
due to a stroke. Her body arrived at the Albrecht Funeral Home,
Monday, and friends called there Tuesday night.
- The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George
COON, Nellie Viola was born Feb. 29, 1880,
- in New Auburn, Minn. On Sept. 29, 1903,
she was married to Byron E. COON, who died in Milton on
Nov. 5, 1948.
- A member of the Seventh Day Baptist
Church, Mrs. COON was active in choir and
- quartet work and taught in the junior
department of the Sabbath school. She attended Milton College
for two years.
- Survivors are one son, Byron Elwin
COON, Pittsburgh; a daughter, Mrs. Willard
- SPAULDING,
Clintonville, Wis.; and six grandchildren, John, Janet and Jean
of Pittsburgh, John, Willard and Lu, Clintonville. A brother,
Durward COON of Milton, and a sister, Mrs. George TRUMAN
of Bruce, preceded her in death.
- Funeral services were held at 2:30
p.m. Wednesday in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
- church. The Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph
officiated and Kenneth BABCOCK gave the song service and
Miss Betty DALAND furnished the organ music. Burial was
in Milton Cemetery, pallbearers were Charles A. NELSON,
W. Guy POLAN, D. Nelson INGLIS, Arthur DRAKE,
Howard DRAKE and Carl F. ANDERSON. [Thursday
