Mrs. Elston SHAW passed away in Wisconsin General Hospital, Madison,
Wednesday night where she had been a patient since April. Emma [Irene], the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford MAXSON was born in Farina, Ill., on October 30, 1902, spending her first years in that community. The family moved to West Edmeston, N.Y., and then to Battle Creek, Mich., where she graduated from High School.
She attended Milton College, graduating with the Class of 1927 and on Christmas
Day of that year she and Elston SHAW were married, making their first home in Streeter, Ill. They also lived in Port Huron, Mich., and Mansfield, Ohio, before moving to Milton in 1935.
From 1946 until the time of her death she was Clerk of the Village of Milton, and from
1935 until 1948 she and her husband operated a school supply and stationary store known as the E-N-E Store. She organized the United Church Women of Milton and Milton Junction and served as their first president. She was a deaconess of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, a past president of the Woman's Circle of that Church and a past president of the Milton Woman's Village Improvement Club.
She is survived by her husband, Elston; a son, Edwin; three grandchildren, Dennis,
Dawn Ann and Teresa; three sisters, four brothers and her father.
Funeral services will be held at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist church, Saturday,
January 10, at 2:30 p.m. Friends may call at the Albrecht's Funeral Home, Milton Junction Friday night from 7 until 9. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 1]

Dr. George I[ra] HURLEY, who had practiced medicine in Eugene, Ore., 27 years,
died New Year's Eve. Funeral services were held the following Friday morning.
Dr. HURLEY was born Feb. 1, 1877, at Humboldt, Neb. On July 6, 1904, he
married Blanche M. BABCOCK at Milton, sister of the late Dr. Lester M. BABCOCK.
Dr. HURLEY had a long and distinguished career in medicine. Graduating from the
University of Illinois Medical School in 1909, he started practice in Hoquaim, Wash., in 1910. During World War I he served overseas. Later, he took a graduate course at Harvard University, and moved to Portland, Ore., in 1921. Two years later he moved to Eugene where he practiced until his retirement in 1950.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, also of various medical and civic
organizations as well as Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Dr. HURLEY graduated from Milton College in 1903 with his wife, Abbie
BABCOCK-VAN HORN, Dr. L. Arthur PLATTS and J. Fred WHITFORD. Others in the class were the late Olney MOORE, Ray ROOD and Edgar VAN HORN.
Survivors are his wife; four children, Muriel GRAY of Oswego, Margaret
HUTCHISON of Eugene, Susan BARKER of Medford and George Donald HURLEY of Eugene; a sister, Cora HEMPHILL, Eugene; and seven grandchildren. Among his nephews known in the Milton area are Dr. George HEMPHILL, Dr. Paul HEMPHILL and Harry TALBOT. [Thursday edition, p. 5]

Oliver M[arksee] CRANDALL, 94, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Fort
Atkinson Memorial Hospital where he had been taken that morning from the Furseth Rest Home, Albion. A former Milton Junction [resident], he had been at Albion since last May.
The youngest son of George G. and Mary Ann BABCOCK CRANDALL, he was
born Oct. 17, 1864, at Westerly, R.I. The family came to Wisconsin in 1865 and located on a farm northwest of Albion. Later they moved to Oakland and there Oliver became a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church where he maintained his membership until his death.
In May, 1891, he married Emma SERNS and they resided in Oakland until 1901
when they moved to Milton Junction. Mrs. CRANDALL died in February 1946. In the late fall of that year he married Mrs. Cornelia I. JOHNSON of Cambridge and lived there a couple of years before moving to Milton Junction. She died here on Aug. 27, 1954.
A number of nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services will be held in the Albrecht Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30.
Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday between 7 and 9 p.m. [Thursday
edition, p. 5]
