Edward J[udson] ROOD, 44, prominent Milton teacher and civic leader, died at his
home following a long illness. He had been afflicted with Hodgkin's disease.
Services were held in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Sunday, the
Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiating. Burial was in Milton cemetery.
Until his final illness Mr. ROOD served as director of admissions for Milton College.
Previous to this assignment he had been head of the psychology department at the college.
A graduate of Milton College in 1938, Mr. ROOD also held a master's degree from
the University of Colorado and had done graduate work at the University of Wisconsin. In his career as an educator he served as a teacher in Edgerton Junior High School and Milton Union High School before becoming associated with Milton College.
As a leader in community and civic affairs, Mr. ROOD served recently as a member
of the Milton Village Board. Illness forced his retirement from the presidency of the Milton Graded School board. Under his leadership a major addition had recently been completed on the school plant.
A deacon of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, Mr. ROOD served as church
president, trustee, youth advisor, Sabbath school superintendent and teacher. He had been organist for Christ Lutheran Church, Stoughton, and the Milton Junction Methodist Church. For many years he was prominent in the Choral Union.
The son of Byron and Lena NELSON ROOD, he was born in Lima Township, April
30, 1916. On Dec. 29, 1941, he married Doris COON.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Dale Eugene and Phillip Duane; a daughter, Alice
Jeanne; his parents; one brother, Leman, of Edgerton, and a sister, Nelsie, of Milton. [Thursday, p. 1]
