Mrs. L. Milton VAN HORN, 48, Milton, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, in the
University Hospitals, Madison, following several weeks illness.
Services were to be held Thursday, Oct. 5, in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church,
the Rev. Elmo Fitz Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.
Mary Kathryn VAN HORN, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey VAN HORN, was
born Jan. 1, 1913 in Lost Creek, W. Va. She was a graduate of the Lost Creek High School, the Normal Course of Salem College, and the Bachelor of Arts course of Milton College. She taught in the elementary schools of West Virginia, and for several years has served as a substitute teacher in the elementary schools of Milton and Milton Junction and in Milton Union High School.
She was married to L. Milton VAN HORN in 1933 and in 1937 they came to
Milton with her husband where she has since made her home. Mrs. VAN HORN was an active member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, a worker in both the Sabbath School and Women's circle. She had been president of the Women's organization of the denomination, but was not able to take office because of illness. She was also a past president of the Village Improvement Club.
Surviving are her husband; four children: Peter J., a senior in the Wisconsin University
School of Engineers; David M., who has just enrolled in the Art Center School, Los Angeles, Calif., Judith E., a sophomore in Milton College, and Robert L., a freshman in Milton-Milton Junction High School; one grandson; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey VAN HORN, Lost Creek, W. Va.; three sisters, Mrs. Robert L. BOND, Middleburg Center, Pa., Mrs. Joseph GERSTNER, Weston, W. Va., Miss Betty Lou VAN HORN, Lost Creek, W. Va., three brothers, Edward S., Clarksburg, W. Va., Harvey O. Jr., Morgantown, W. Va., and Lewis J., Corsicana, Texas. [Thursday, p. 1]

The Rev George B. SHAW, D.D., died Thursday, Sept. 21, at his home in Alfred,
N.Y., after a long illness. He was 96 years old.
His wife, Mrs. Nellie BURDICK SHAW, survived him by nine days, and died
Saturday, Sept. 30.
George Bly SHAW, son of John Leland and Catherine BURDICK SHAW was
born at Freeborn, Minn., Jan. 25, 1865. He was a graduate of Milton College in the class of 1891; and of Alfred School of Theology. He also did graduate work at the University of Chicago.
He was ordained into the Seventh Day Baptist ministry, and held pastorates in New
York State, Plainfield, N.J., North Loup, Neb., Ashaway, R.I., Salem, W. Va., and twice in New York City. He retired in 1938.
Nellie E[vangel] SHAW, daughter of Silas Greenman and Hannah E. HULL
BURDICK, was born March 1, 1868 at Lima, Wis. She graduated from Milton College in 1892. She and Mr. SHAW were married in Milton Aug. 14, 1894. They were the parents of four daughters, three of whom survive: Mrs. H. O. (Hannah) BURDICK, Alfred, N.Y., Mrs. George (Helen) THORNGATE of Monterey, Calif., and Mrs. James I. (Catherine) STILLMAN of Houston, Texas; also 10 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. The youngest daughter, Miss Miriam SHAW, died in 1958.
The Rev. Mr. SHAW was a brother of the late Dr. Edwin Ben SHAW of Milton.
Nephews and nieces in this area are Leland C. SHAW, Miss Stephana SHAW, Elston E. SHAW, and Mrs. Elton BINGHAM. Mrs. J. Paul GREEN is a niece of Mrs. SHAW.
Services for both were held in the First Seventh Day Baptist church, Alfred, N.Y.,
with burial in Alfred Rural Cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 5]
