- Funeral services for [Leslie] James
BENNETT, 71, Salem, Ark., and a former
- Milton resident, were held Sunday,
Apr. 5, at 1:30 p.m. in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church,
the Rev. Elmo F. Randolph officiating.
- Kenneth BABCOCK gave the sing
service accompanied by Miss Betty DALAND
- at the organ.
- Burial was in Milton cemetery. Pallbearers
were Dewey PIHL and Clarence
- PFEFFERKORN
of Fort Atkinson, Rev. Walter HOLLIDAY of Janesville,
Prof. W. D. BURDICK of Milton, Howard DRAKE and
Charles COURTNEY of Milton Junction.
- The son of James B. and Dollie BROWN
BENNETT he was born Nov. 14, 1893
- in Milton. He attended Milton High
school and Milton Academy, was a student in the School of Music,
Milton College, and was a member of the Milton College Men's
Glee Club and the Milton College Octet.
- He was married to Miss Ruth SAYRE,
Milton, August 18, 1921. They had farmed in
- the Milton, Edgerton and Fort Atkinson
areas until retiring in 1951 when they moved to Salem, Ark.
He was a member of the Methodist Church in Salem.
- Surviving are his wife; two sons, Leslie
M. of Waterville, Ohio, and Milton C. of
- Racine; one daughter, Mrs. Clifford
(Patricia) GERMAIN of Waukesha; 12 grandchildren; one
brother, Harold of Denver, Colo.; five sisters, Mrs. J. Fred
WHITFORD and Mrs. Walter F. NEILS, both of Milton,
Miss Ardis BENNETT of Jefferson, Mrs. Charles F. SUTTON
of Springfield, Ill., and Mrs. Harold C. BURDICK of Kansas
City, Mo.
- Preceding him in death were a daughter,
Joann, and two sisters, Zela and Geneva.

- Prof. Leman H[uffman] STRINGER,
81, head of the Milton College School of
- Music for 37 years, died at 10 a.m.
Monday, April 13, in his home on R. 1, Milton Junction.
- Funeral services were to be held today,
Thursday, April 16, at 2 p.m. in the Milton
- Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Rev.
Elmo F. Randolph officiating. Burial will be in Milton Cemetery.
- Lehman H. STRINGER, son of William
M. and Mary KELLY STRINGER, was
- born Oct. 2, 1882, in Pulaski, Ill.
He attended Milton Academy and Milton College, graduating in
1909, and then studied voice and speech in Chicago.
- After teaching in the West Allis high
school he returned to Milton College in 1912 as
- head of the school of music and dramatic
art, a post he held until his retirement in 1949.
- In the field of music he carried on
the tradition of the Choral Union's annual
- Shakespearean plays from 1913 until
1948 except during World War I. He was for many years director
of the First Congregational choir in Janesville and until 1962
was director of the choir in his own church, the Milton Seventh
Day Baptist Church. He was a leading member of the Milton and
Milton Junction Kiwanis Club.
- He was married to Ruth ZINN
of Farina, Ill., in June, 1911. Mr. and Mrs.
- STRINGER
celebrated their golden wedding during Commencement in June,
1961, when many of their friends and Mr. STRINGER's former
students returned to greet them.
- Surviving are his wife; one daughter,
Mrs. Boyden L. (Mary) CROUCH of Phoenix,
- Ariz., and one grandson, Robert.
- Preceding him in death was a son, William,
who died at the age of 11. [Thursday
