- Elam P[otter] COON, 83, former
Milton resident, died Monday, Aug. 10, in a
- hospital in Bradenton, Fla. after a
long illness. He had been in failing health for several years
and had made his home in Florida the past three years.
- Funeral services will be held Friday,
Aug. 14, in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
- Church with Rev. Elmo Randolph officiating.
Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery.
- Friends may call tonight, Thursday,
Aug. 13, at the Albrecht Funeral Home, Milton
- Junction, from 7 to 9 p.m. Masonic
services will be held at 8 p.m.
- The son of Dayton B. and Mary POTTER
COON, he was born March 11, 1881, in
- Utica. He farmed in Dane County before
coming to Rock County in 1907. He attended Milton College and
the short course at the UW School of Agriculture. A charter member
of the Pure Milk Association and the Rock County Farm Bureau,
he also was a member of the Milton Grange more than 25 years.
In 1934 he was named a Master Farmer of Wisconsin by the Wisconsin
Agriculturist and Farmer at the U. W. The Master Farmers of Wisconsin
is one of the few active groups of the national organization.
- A 32nd degree Mason, and member of
Zor Shrine, Madison, he was a member of
- Friendship Chapter No. 46, O.E.S.,
and served as patron for two years.
- Survivors include his wife; two stepsons,
Jack GARNETT of Milton and Neil
- AIKEN
of Ripon; a brother, Philip L. COON, Beaver Falls, Pa.;
two nephews and a niece; two step-grandchildren, Greg GARNETT
and Sharon AIKEN.
- He was predeceased by three wives,
two children, and a sister, Rachel. [Thursday

- Mrs. Aden CLARKE, El Centro,
Calif., died Aug. 12, in a Riverside hospital. Last
- rites were held Aug. 12 in Riverside
where burial was made.
- The daughter of Alva and Mabel CURTIS
VAN HORN, Winifred [Ottille] was
- born March 10, 1899, in Milton. She
was married to Aden CLARKE in Milton but they have resided
in California most of the time since.
- Survivors are her husband; a son, Maurice
Aden; one grandson; two brothers,
- Maurice VAN HORN of Avalon and
Willis VAN HORN of Appleton; and two sisters, Chloe (Mrs.
Paul HEMPHILL of Eugene, Ore.), and Josephine (Mrs. Stanley
MATTHEWS of Bay City, Mich.). [Thursday edition, p.

- Percy W[illard] BURDICK, 78,
of Rockford, Ill., died at 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug.
- 23, in the Sutton Nursing Home, Belvidere,
Ill., following a long illness.
- The son of Dr. Justin H. and Fanny
COON BURDICK, he was born Feb. 11, 1886,
- in Utica, Wis. He attended Milton Academy.
- He was married to Gertrude LIVINGSTON
in Milton Junction June 22, 1914. They
- celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary
this year. They resided in the Milton area until moving to Rockford
46 years ago. He was employed in the Inspection Dept. of Barber-Colman
Co., Rockford, for 36 years before retiring in 1955. He was a
member of the Centennial Methodist Church, the Church Board and
Choir, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the
Lincoln Park Improvement Assn. He was also a Charter Member of
the Rockford Hobby Club of which he became a lifetime member
in June.
- Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; two
sons, David L. and W. Douglas BURDICK, of
- Rockford; four grandchildren; six brothers,
Paul of Placerville, Calif., Hugh of Janesville, Clifford in
Arizona, William of Wauwatosa, Roger and Robert of Milton; and
two sisters, Phyllis and Ruth.
- Funeral services were held at 1 p.m.
Tuesday, Aug. 25, in Centennial Methodist
- Church, the Rev. A. J. Tavenner officiating.
Burial was in the Milton Junction Cemetery with Eric NORDBERG,
Del SHERMAN, Charles LEATHERBY, Millard CASTLE,
Lawrence GRIMES, all of Rockford, and Maurice COOPER
of Newville, as pallbearers.
- A memorial has been established at
the Centennial Methodist Church, Rockford, in his
