Mrs. Ruby L[uella] SKELLY, 45, Janesville, former Milton resident, died
unexpectedly Sunday, Oct. 6, at 9:30 p.m. in Mercy Hospital, Janesville, where she was admitted after becoming ill Saturday at the Steak House where she was employed as a waitress.
Born Feb. 2, 1923 at Milton, the former Ruby BABCOCK was the daughter of
Henry and Maude COON BABCOCK. She was married to David SKELLY Oct. 9, 1948 at Land O'Lakes, Wis. She was a member of St. Williams Catholic Church, Janesville, and active in women's bowling circles.
Surviving are a brother, Leonard BABCOCK, Haverstraw, N.Y., two sisters, Mrs.
Norman DICKENSON of Janesville and Mrs. Evelyn MISHLEAU of Fort Atkinson; an uncle, Rev. Fred I. BABCOCK, Land O'Lakes, and two aunts, Mrs. Ora LEWIS of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Beryl WHITFORD, Berrien Springs, Mich.; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in St. Williams Church,
Janesville, with burial in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 4]

Charles A. WHITFORD, 58, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 2, in his home at
345 E. Madison Ave., after suffering a heart attack.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Milton Seventh Day
Baptist Church, the Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery with David, Kenneth J., Kenneth A., and Winston WHITFORD, Steven CROUCH and Gordon LOOMER as pallbearers.
The son of Kenneth and Gertrude SMITH WHITFORD, he was born July 4, 1910,
at Albion. He was a graduate of Edgerton high school and a lifelong area resident. He was married Jan. 5, 1938, in Dubuque, Iowa, to Charlotte POLAN. He was employed on the production line of the Chevrolet Plant in Janesville for many years. He was a member of the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Milton.
Surviving are his wife; five sons, Charles, Kewaskum; Monte, Chicago; Phillip and
Gary both of Janesville; Donald, at home; two daughters, Mrs. Marjorie ARMS, Gays Mills, and Janice, at home; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Ronald, Mayville; Wendall, Cottage Grove, and Norman of Oshkosh.
Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers. [Thursday edition, p. 4]

Mrs. Harlow O. CLARKE, Milton, died Wednesday night, Oct. 2, in Mercy
Hospital, Janesville, where she had undergone surgery six weeks ago.
Funeral services were held a 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, in the Wolfgram Funeral Home,
Janesville, the Rev. Odyss Kneece, First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery.
The former Hilda [Hildegarde Mina Ardena] AMBROSE was born April 5, 1893,
in Jefferson and was married to Harlow CLARKE, Jan. 29, 1913. He died in 1966. She was a resident of rural Janesville and Rock County most of her life, moving to Milton after the death of her husband.
Survivors are two sons, Harlow, Westminster, Calif., and Duane, Whitewater; six
daughters, Mrs. Anna SCHIEFELBEIN, Black River Falls; Mrs. George STARKS and Mrs. Glen HOWARD, both of Janesville; Mrs. Donald KRAMER, Santa Ana, Calif.; Lucille CLARKE, Beloit, and Mrs. Lloyd WINCAPAW, Rockford, Ill.; 29 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and a brother, Paul AMBROSE, Janesville. Victor H[erald] HURLEY, 73, R. 1, Milton, operator of HURLEY's Pony Farm,
died unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 12, in his home after suffering a fatal heart attack.
Mr. HURLEY was owner and president of HURLEY X-Ray Co., Milwaukee, until
selling the firm and retiring a year ago.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct 15, in the Milton Seventh Day
Baptist Church, The Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating. Burial was in the Milton Cemetery.
Born April 28, 1895, in Welton, Iowa, he was the son of John C. and Aihalia VAN
HORN HURLEY, coming to Milton with his family in 1916. He attended Milton Academy and Milton College and after serving in World War I, he completed his education at UCLA.
He was married June 20, 1921, to the former Sybil REID. He was a member of the
Seventh Day Baptist Church and a member of the building committee. A former trustee of Milton College, he was a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife; a son, George, Appleton; a daughter, Mrs. Leonard R.
PIERCE, Hinsdale, Ill.; three grandchildren; a brother, Francis, and a sister, Miss Dora HURLEY, both of Riverside, Calif. [Thursday edition, p. 5]
