- Thomas E. DAVIDSON, 87, retired
local carpenter, died Tuesday morning, Aug.
- 12, in Mercy Hospital, Janesville.
- Mr. DAVIDSON, a lifelong resident,
and former member and captain of the Milton
- volunteer fire department, had been
in ill health for the past year.
- Funeral services were to be held today,
Thursday, Aug. 14, at 1:30 p.m. in the
- Albrecht Funeral Home, the Rev. J.
W. C. Emigholz, First Congregational Church officiating. Burial
was to be in the Milton Cemetery with Chet SKELLY, Elton
VAN HORN, Wayne DAVIDSON, William NOTTINGHAM,
J. Pitt HOLMES and George SHELLESTAD as pallbearers.
- The son of John and Alma LEE
DAVIDSON, he was born in Milton July 28, 1882.
- He was married to Myrtie ADDIE
Dec. 16, 1903. She died Feb. 19, 1949. He was married to Sophia
FRANK in 1950.
- Surviving are his wife; three sons,
Harley of McFarland, Earl of Madison, and Roger
- of Milton; a stepson, Clarence FRANK,
and two stepdaughters, Mrs. Virginia SIME of Janesville,
and Mrs. Delores HUSTEN, Madison; 10 grandchildren and
six great- grandchildren; and one brother John R. DAVIDSON
of Milton.
- He was preceded in death by two sisters,

- Miss Ruth E[velyn] BURDICK, 69, former local resident,
died Monday, Aug. 11,
- in University Hospitals, Madison. Miss BURDICK had
been in ill health most of her life.
- Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13,
in the Milton
- Cemetery, with Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating.
- Born in Milton, she was the daughter of Dr. Justin and Clara
STILLMAN
- BURDICK.
- Surviving are three brothers, Robert and Roger, both of Milton,
and William of
- Wauwatosa, and a sister, Phyllis, of Janesville. [Thursday

- Miss Zia [Zea] ZINN, 76, emeritus
professor of English at Milton College, died
- unexpectedly Tuesday morning, Aug.
26, in Eagle River hospital.
- Miss ZINN was attending the
fifth annual Baroque Music Festival being held at Eagle
- River when she was taken ill. Death
was due to cardiac failure.
- A memorial service was to be held today,
Thursday, Aug. 28, at 2 p.m. in the Milton
- Seventh Day Baptist Church, the Rev.
Earl Cruzan officiating. Following cremation, burial will be
in Farina, Ill.
- Miss ZINN, daughter of Thomas
and Mary LANGWORTHY ZINN was born July
- 12, 1893 at Farina, Ill. She attended
local schools in Illinois, received her bachelor of arts degree
from Milton College in 1916 and her master of arts from the University
of Wisconsin in 1924.
- Prior to coming to Milton she was an
instructor at the University of Wisconsin
- Extension, the Milwaukee Teachers College
and Eastern Illinois College. In 1932 she spent a year of study
in Oxford and London, England for her thesis on "Eighteenth
Century English Novels", for her doctorate which she received
in 1935. She was a professor of English at Milton College from
1920-23, 1946-59, 1960-61 and 1963 to 1964 when she retired.
- Miss ZINN was the recipient
of the annual "Pillar of Milton" award in June, 1960.
- Dr. ZINN was commended for her
deep interest and service to her alma mater, for her wise guidance
and counsel when she served as Dean of Women and for her interest
in Great Books.
- Surviving are two sisters. Miss Flora
ZINN of Milton, and Mrs. Leman (Ruth)
- STRINGER,
in Arizona. Other local relatives include J. Paul GREEN,
Ralph GREEN, Mrs. Russell MAXSON and Mrs. Walter
HUDSON, nieces and nephews. [Thursday edition,

- Mrs. Leon BURDICK, 91, member of a pioneer Lima Township
family, and lifelong
- area resident, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, in Rock Haven, Janesville,
where she had been residing since April, 1967.
- Services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, from the Albrecht
Funeral Home, with
- the Rev. Richard Jones, Faith United Methodist Church, officiating.
Burial was in the Milton Junction Cemetery with Carl PATTERSON,
Howard DRAKE, Lee SCOVILLE and John GALLMANN
as pallbearers.
- Sarah [A.] BRYANT, daughter of William and Harriet
BRYANT, was born Sept.
- 27, 1878, at Lima and was married in Milton to Leon BURDICK
Oct. 4, 1898. The couple was employed as attendants at the Rock
County Home and Hospital for many years prior to their retirement.
They had observed their 67th wedding anniversary before his death
in 1966.
- Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ted (Mabel) ODENWALDER,
Milton; Mrs.
- Victor (Nellie) [name omitted, should read SCOVILLE]
of Genoa, and Mrs. Wilbur (Margaret) MUNSON, of Denver,
Cole.; two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
- Preceding her in death besides her husband, was a granddaughter,
Peggy
- ODENWALDER GALLMANN.
