- R[ichard] Wayne HULL, 50, former
Milton resident, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the
- Kaukauna Community Hospital following
a long illness.
- Mr. HULL, long-time avid golfer
and sports enthusiast, was almost totally paralyzed
- with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis
or Lou Gehrig disease, an incurable illness that works slowly
and painlessly on the muscles, preying on middle-aged, active,
athletic men.
- He was born in Milton, Feb. 5, 1923.
After serving in the Navy during World War
- II, he attended Milton College graduating
in 1949, and married former Marge RABYOR, Milton. He
then taught in Kaukauna for five years while attending summer
school at the University of Wisconsin and received a masters
degree in 1953. From there he became the elementary principal
at Waupaca, then Combined Locks, then the Kimberly school district
where he became director of elementary education.
- For three years he worked as assistant
director of placements at the University of
- Wisconsin-Oshkosh before returning
to Kaukauna as Quinney principal. HULL, of 403 Buchanan
Rd., Combined Locks, retired last June due to his illness.
- He was also one of the founders of
the Fox Valley Golf Club in Kaukauna, which
- hosts the annual Wayne HULL
Invitational Tournament.
- Surviving are his wife, two sons, Richard
and Geoffrey; two daughters, Laurie and
- Lisa, all at home; three brothers,
Harold, Evansville; Ronald, Janesville; and Ken, Milton; and
a sister, Mrs. James (Mildred) HUGHES, Rockford.
- Services will be held at the Kaukauna
Methodist Church, Friday, Jan. 18, at 9:30
- a.m., and the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
Church, at 3 p.m., with the Revs. Gordon Merritt, Kaukauna, and
Earl Cruzan, Milton, officiating.
- Visitation will be held at the Milton
Seventh Day Baptist Church from 2 to 3 p.m.
- Friday.
- Burial will be in Milton Cemetery with
Monroe SCHNEIDER, Dr. George BOYD,
- Julian BICHLER, Gene PLOETZ,
Julian CONKEY and Ray SCHMIDT, all of the Kaukauna
area, as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are: Henry DRECHLER,
Ron WENNINGER, Bernie SCHMITT, Carl SUNBY,
John DIESTLER and Jim MINKEBEGE. [Thursday
