- Prof. D[avid] Nelson INGLIS,
94, Professor of Modern Languages, Emeritus, at
- Milton College, died Sunday, Jan. 2,
at Rock Haven Nursing Home where he had been a patient since
1974.
- He was born Jan. 1, 1883 in Marquette,
Wis. and married the former Tacy ROOD,
- Aug. 9, 1905. He attended Marquette
grade school and graduated from Milton Academy and Milton College
in 1905 and a masters degree from the University of Wisconsin
in 1908.
- The couple lived in Marquette and Madison
where he served as principal at Marquette
- State Grade School from 1905 to 1907
and taught before coming to Milton in 1910.
- Mr. INGLIS was a professor of
Romantic Languages at Milton College from 1910
- to 1954 and 1956 until his retirement
in 1958. He also attended a summer session at Alfred University,
Alfred, N.Y., from 1929 to 1931 and was an assistant in French
at LaSorbonne, Paris, France, in 1930.
- He was president and treasurer of the
Milton Historical Society, a member of the
- Milton Civic Club, assessor of the
Village of Milton for five years, a ten-year member of the Milton
Village Board, and recipient of the Pillar of Milton Award in
1954 and the Citizen of the Year Award, presented by the Milton
Kiwanis in 1969.
- Both Mr. and Mrs. INGLIS were
honored in 1969 as being two of the oldest
- members of the Seventh Day Baptist
Church, joining in 1900. She died Feb. 11, 1973.
- He is survived by one daughter, Mrs.
Lois SMITH, Newville, two grandchildren and
- four great-grandchildren.
- Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday,
Jan. 7, at the Seventh Day Baptist Church
- with Rev. Earl Cruzan officiating.
Burial will be in Milton Cemetery. No visitation will be held.
Albrecht Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. [Thursday
