Mizpah BENNETT WHITFORD, 91, a retired teacher, died Wednesday, June 1,
at Caravilla Nursing Home in Beloit. A longtime resident of Milton, she had lived at Caravilla since Oct. 1986.
Mrs. WHITFORD was born Sept. 26, 1896, in Lima Township, the daughter of
James B. and Dollie BROWN BENNETT. A graduate of Milton High School, she attended Milton College and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She was a graduate of Whitewater State Teachers College.
She taught in Lima Center, Milton and Waukesha before going to Janesville to teach
at Washington School where she was honored for 38 years of teaching. She was a member of the Milton Women's Club and the Seventh Day Baptist Church in Milton.
She was married to J. Fred WHITFORD on Nov. 2, 1958. He died in 1965. Five
sisters, Zela, Geneva TALBOT, Ardis, Constance SUTTON, Dorothy NEILS and two brothers, Leslie and Harold also predeceased her. Mrs. WHITFORD is survived by a sister, Clarice BENNETT (Harold) BURDICK of Raytown, Mo.; a brother-in-law, Dr. Charles F. SUTTON of Peoria, Ill.; nieces Constance BURDICK (Lowell) THOMAS of Grandview, Mo., and Mary NEILS KNUDSEN of Colgate; nephews Frank (Sandra) NEILS of Neenah and Walter NEILS of Janesville. She is also survived by several grandnieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 4 at the Seventh Day Baptist Church with
Pastor Earl Cruzan officiating. Burial was in Milton Cemetery with Kenneth BABCOCK, Erlo NELSON, Kenneth OCHS, Leland SKAGGS, Ralph SCHULTZ and Louis SUNBY as pallbearers. Albrecht Funeral Homes handled the arrangements. [Thursday edition, p. 24]
