- Mildred [Elizabeth] WATERMAN GRAY,
96, a lifetime resident of Milton, died
- Tuesday, Nov. 23, 1993, at the Edgerton
Long Term Care Unit.
- She was born July 29, 1897, to William
and Winnie (SCOTT) WATERMAN on
- the WATERMAN farm, south of
Milton. Her great-great-grandfather was Henry JANES,
credited with the founding of a small town in southern Wisconsin
called Janesville. She graduated from Milton Union High School
in 1917 and attended Milton College. Following graduation from
the Rock County Normal Teacher's Training School, she taught
school in the Milton Junction Elementary School. She was an
active and lifelong member of the First Congregational United
Church of Christ in Milton. She married Robert A. GRAY
in 1920.
- She is survived by a daughter, Joan
(Curtis) AUSTIN of Janesville; a son, Ross
- (Shirley) GRAY of Milton; two
grandsons, Rob GRAY of Milton and Steven AUSTIN
of Madison; three granddaughters: Sue GRAY of Delavan,
Mary Jo CRAIG of Janesville, and Lynn BROESCH of
Menomonee Falls; five great-grandchildren, Erica and Emily GRAY,
Jace and Nick BARBERA and Derek AUSTIN; and two
sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by her parents; two
brothers, Robert and Bert WATERMAN; and a sister, Grace
THUELER.
- Funeral services were held Friday,
Nov. 26 at the First Congregational Church UCC.
- Rev. Herbert Saunders officiated.
Burial was in the Milton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to
the First Congregational Church of Milton of the Long Term Care
Unit of Edgerton Hospital. [Thursday edition, p. 2]
