- Richard Maxson PLACE, 82, of
Natchez, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 21, 1996, at his
- home.
- He was born Jan. 30, 1913, in Whitewater
to the late Horace Merton and Helen
- POST
PLACE. He was a graduate of Milton College, with a major
in chemistry and physics. While there he lettered in football
and sang in the glee chub. Following his service in the army
during World War II, he was employed as chief chemist with Johns
Manville Corporation from 1948 until his retirement in 1976.
During his retirement he was a coin dealer. He was a Boy Scout
leader for 20 years, earning the Silver Beaver award. He was
also a member of the Natchez Kiwanis Club for 45 years, serving
as secretary and as a member of the board of directors. He was
a member of the Christian Science Church.
- Survivors include his wife, Jeanette
C. PLACE; a son, Doug (Linda) PLACE of
- Opelousas, La.; a sister, Helen PLACE
FRIEND of Fallbrook, Calif.; and two grand- children,
Elizabeth and William PLACE.
- Funeral services were held Tuesday,
Jan. 23, at the Laird Funeral Home. Dr. Jac
- Ruffin officiated. Burial was in Milton
Cemetery. A memorial service will be held this summer. Memorials
can be made to the Natchez Children's Home. [Thursday edition,
