- Gertrude D. WILLIAMS, 84, of
Milton, died Saturday morning, May 6, 2000, at
- Mercy Health System, Janesville.
- She was born Sept. 24, 1915, in Milton,
Wisconsin, the daughter of Grant and
- Charlotte (CRUMB) DAVIS.
She was baptized May 3, 1929 in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
Church and joined the church the following day. She graduated
from Milton Union High School and Milton College. For a short
time she worked for two grocery stores, Soergels and then Moyer's.
From 1939-44 she was employed in the engineering department
of Parker Pen in Janesville. She married Charles H. WILLIAMS
of Albion on Nov. 23, 1944, in the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
Church. They moved to his family homestead in Albion. Gertrude
joined the Albion Seventh Day Baptist Church. She was president
of the Home Benefit Society, member of the Albion Civics Club
and Milton College Choral Union. In the 1950s she was employed
in the engineering department at Highway Trailer of Edgerton.
From 1961-63 she worked for Mitbon and Holman Insurance Agency
in Edgerton. In 1963 the family moved to Milton where she was
employed by the Milton School District for 21 years. She was
a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, financial
secretary of the church, president of the Afternoon Women's Circle,
secretary of the Women's Circle, member of the Eutharsos Class,
teacher in the primary Sabbath school, member of the Milton Historical
Society and Business and Professional Women's Club.
- She is survived by a daughter, Ann
WILLIAMS of Milton; a son Rollin (Phyllis)
- WILLIAMS
of Matthews, North Carolina; a grandson Marc WILLIAMS
of Spartanburg, South Carolina; and a sister-in-law Mary STEWART
of Racine. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband,
Charles H. WILLIAMS.
- Funeral services were held Wednesday,
May 10, 2000, at Milton Seventh Day Baptist
- Church. Burial was in Milton Cemetery.
