Bernice E[linore] LIPPINCOTT, 83, of 204 S. Janesville St., Milton, died Tuesday, April 9,
2002, at the Skaalen Home, Stoughton, following a long illness.
She was born Dec. 2, 1918, in Janesville, the daughter of Otto P. MANTHEI and Clara
(HOMAN) MANTHEI. She attended Janesville Schools. She married Walden LIPPINCOTT Sept. 23, 1939, in Cedar Rapids, IA. She lived in Milton all her married life. She was a homemaker, a member of the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church and its women's afternoon circle.
She is survived by her husband, Walden; a son, Bruce (Judy) LIPPINCOTT of Milton; two
daughters, Jean (Doug) CHASE of Lake Geneva and Joyce (Bob) RITTER of Janesville; eight grandchildren: Diane KICHNER of Fort Wayne, IN, Doug (Roxy) ROENNEBURG of Colorado Springs, CO, Derrick (Heidi) ROENNEBURG of Janesville, Dawn TRILLIO of Colorado Springs, CO, Brian (Christal) LIPPINCOTT of Janesville and Nathan RITTER of Janesville; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Georgene MINNICK of Janesville; two brothers, A. C. MANTHEI of Janesville and Norman MANTHEI of Indianford; and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly FIEDLER and two brothers Kenneth MANTHEI and Rolland MANTHEI.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2002 at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist
Church. Rev. George Calhoun will officiate. Burial will be in the Milton Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at the Albrecht Funeral Home, Hwy. 26, Milton, and from 10:30 until time of services on Friday at the church. [p. 4, courtesy of Jon Saunders]

Lucille M. (COSGROVE) LUECK PROTTEAU, 77, formerly of 544 N. Grant St., Janesville,
died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Encore Senior Living.
She was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Janesville, the daughter of Carl and Mary (STRUNZ)
COSGROVE. She married Harold R. LUECK on Dec. 30, 1944 in Janesville; he died March 26, 1983. She later married Leo PROTTEAU; he died Nov. 1, 2000. She and Leo lived in rural Edgerton and Janesville and wintered in Florida. She was a member of St. William Catholic Church and was active in the Latin America Mission Program (LAMP). She worked as a secretary for Parker Pen, Burdick Corporation and Wisconsin Knife Co.
Survivors include her son, Gary (Jane) LUECK of rural Janesville; four grandchildren: Christine
(Jack) GREENE, Susan (Todd) BAILEY, Angela (Myrick) HERMANSON and Mark (fiance Courtney GREATSINGER) LUECK, all of Janesville; 10 great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Linda (Ken) MICHAELS of Edgerton and Gail (Charles) RUSCH of Milton and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands, and her brother, Eugene COSGROVE.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, April 8, 2002, at St. William Catholic Church. Fr.
Del Klink officiated. Entombment was in Milton Lawns Mausoleum. Hansen Funeral Home handled the arrangements. [p. 4]

Catherine C. COOK, 91, formerly of Fond du Lac, and a resident of Milton for the past five
years, died Monday, April 8, 2002, at the Meadow Park Healthcare Center in Janesville, WI.
She as born March 7, 1911, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Fred & Carrie STOCK. On October
14, 1930, she married Harold L. COOK in Milwaukee, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 1980. She was a member of Church of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran. Catherine was formerly employed by Madame Kuony at the Postillion as secretary.
Surviving are three sons: Ronald H. COOK, Sr. and his wife, Dian, of Fond du Lac, Frederick S.
COOK and his wife, Grace, of Young America, MN, and Harold L. D. COOK and his wife, Mary, of Wisconsin Dells; two daughters, Carol BROWN and her husband, Richard, of Janesville, and Barbara MECKLENBURG and her husband, Richard of Adams-Friendship, WI. She is further survived by 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. Her parents, husband, one grandson, John COOK, and a sister, Harriet STARKE, preceded her in death.
Because of construction at Church of Our Savior Evangelical Lutheran, visitation for Mrs. COOK
will be on Saturday, April 13, 2002, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Duane C. Wisner will officiate and burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park Cemetery. [p. 4]

C. Roger JOHNSON, 81, of 403 College St., died Friday, April 5, 2002, at St. Luke's Hospital,
Milwaukee.
He was born March 11, 1921 in Milton, the son of Elwyn and Ethel JOHNSON. He graduated
from Milton Union High School. He married Betty Jane SHERMAN on Nov. 27,1943. He entered the military in 1943 and served as a fighter pilot in Korea and the Philippines until 1946. He was a member of the 475th Warbirds Fighter Group. He graduated from Milton College with a BA in accounting. He worked as an engineer for Ryan, Inc. of Janesville; T.S. Willis of Janesville, was president of the Peabody Peterson in Orlando, FL; W.E. O'Neill Construction Co., Chicago, Ill.; Kennedy Construction, Beloit and Scheflow Engineering of Elgin, Ill.
Since his retirement in 1999 he has served as president of the Milton College Main Hall
Preservation Society. He was project manager for the restoration of Main Hall, including the Chapel/Bell Tower on the Milton College campus. This work was orchestrated by Roger including bringing in ReCAP prisoners from Rock County Jail to assist with some of the work. He was recognized for participating in the ReCAP program which allows prisoners the opportunity to learn a trade. In order to make the program successful, he took it upon himself to transport the prisoners to insure the completion of the project. He took his lifetime of experience in construction to restore Main Hall to its former glory. In June of 1997 he was awarded the Pillar of Miltonm by the Alumni Association of Milton College. He was a member of the Milton Historical Society and the Milton College Alumni Association. He served on the Milton City Council and was an active member of Hope Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a daughter, Jacquelyn (Randy) RICE of Milton; three sons,
Craig (Georgia-Edgerton) JOHNSON of Las Vegas, Nev.; Brad (Bridget) JOHNSON of Columbia City, IN and Thomas (fiance Rhonda HENDRICKSON) of Milton; two daughters-in-law, Elizabeth of Milton and Julie of Clearwater, FL; a sister, Elizabeth SKELLY of Milton; two brothers, Robert (Charlotte) JOHNSON of Plymouth and Harvey JOHNSON of Milton; 11 grandchildren, Melissa of Edgerton, Christopher of Burlington, Jason of Missoula, MT, Jared and Chelsea of Columbia, IN, Lance, Ryan, Lindsey and Vanessa RICE of Milton, Tom and Zacharaiah (Sara) of Milton; one great-grandchild, Nyla. He was preceded in death by two sons, Garry in 1989 and Jay in 1996.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, at Hope Lutheran Church. Burial was in the
Milton Cemetery. A memorial has been established in his name. [p. 5]

Ruth Elizabeth (HOLLIDAY) MANSUR, 96, of Janesville, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at
Cedar Crest Retirement Home.
She was born March 13, 1906 in Beloit, the daughter of Guy and Eva HOLLIDAY. She
graduated from Eastside High School in Denver, CO in 1924. She entered Mercy School of Nursing in 1926 and graduated with a degree in nursing in 1929. She married Ross H. MANSUR on Aug. 23, 1929. They farmed east of Janesville in Johnstown until his death in 1965. She was a resident of Cedar Crest Retirement Home since 1976. She was a member of Emmanuel Free Methodist Church. She returned to Bible College in Clearwater, FL when in her 60s and graduated with honors.
Surviving family members are a daughter, Kathryn E. SCHROEDER of Janesville; a son, Robert
W. MANSUR of Janesville; two sisters, Esther RASMUSSEN of Janesville and Evelyn MILLARD of Janesville; 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ross; a great-granddaughter, Melissa Joy; three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2002 at the Emmanuel Free Methodist Church,
Janesville. Pastor Jerry Amstutz and Pastor John Grover officiated. A memorial will be established in her name. [p. 5]

Richard M. BARGER, 50, of 4502 Pic-A-Dilly Drive, formerly of Waterford, MI died
unexpectedly Thursday, April 4, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Wichita, KS.
He was born Sept. 20, 1951 in Pontiac, MI, the son of George and Betty (SPARKS)
BARGER. He had lived in Janesville the past 12 years, moving here from Waterford, MI. He married Jackie L. SHELTON on May 6, 1972 in Waterford, MI. He was employed by Allied Auto Group for 25 years and was a union steward for Allied.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; two sons: James (Nicole) BARGER of Waterford, MI and
Jeremy BARGER (Tanya LANGE) of Janesville; a sister, Brenda (David) DILLINGER of White Lake, MI; four sisters-in-law: Lois (Tom) ALLEN, Debbie (Tom SCHIRMER) SHELTON, Gail (Larry) LaFORD, all of Waterford, MI and Wendy (Andy PRUSAKIEWICZ) SHELTON of Attica, MI; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Jena MULLINS, Sharon ALEXANDER and Nora BARBER; and a brother, Kenneth Grover.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 10, 2002 at Schneider Funeral Home, Janesville.
Rev. Neil DuPree officiated. Burial was in the Ottawa Park Cemetery in Waterford, MI. Memorials may be made to the Heart and Lung Association. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, April 12, 2002 at Riverside Chapel in Waterford, MI with a visitation from 4 p.m. until time of service. [p. 5]
