- Elton George VAN HORN, 85, of
957 E. High St., died Thursday, March 20, 2003,
- at Beloit Memorial Hospital.
- He was born June 8, 1917, in Garwin,
IA, the son of George and Esther (CARVER)
- VAN HORN.
He had lived in Milton since 1924 and graduated from Milton High
School. He married Alice KOEPPE in Milton on Dec. 9, 1939.
He owned and operated VAN HORN Painting and was a veteran
of World War II. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion
and the NRA. He was a former fire chief of the Milton Fire Department
and a city council member of old Milton.
- Survivors include his wife, Alice of
Milton; five sons: Peter (Pat) of Milton, Steven
- (Carole) of Custer, Jeffrey (Kris)
of Milton, John (Laurie) of Milton and Scott (Helen) of Milton;
a daughter, Pamela (Peter) FOERSTERA of Stratford; 13
grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister Charlotte HUCKSTEAD
of South St. Paul, Minn., two sisters-in-law, Germaine VAN
HORN of Madison and Helen VAN HORN of Janesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Stanley
and Merle.
- Funeral services were held Monday,
March 24, 2003, at Milton Lawns Memorial
- Chapel. Rev. Virgil Holmes officiated.
Burial was in Milton Lawns Memorial Park. Albrecht Funeral Home
was in charge of arrangements. [Thursday edition, p. 4]
