Viola A. BROWN was born in Berlin, Wis., July 19, 1851. She was a daughter of
Jerry and Anna MERRILL BROWN. So far as is known there are only two living out of a large family of brothers and sisters, a brother Algenon, and a sister Ellen, who resides in California. A brother, Albert, died in Hammond, La., September 24, 1916. Two half brothers, Philip BROWN of Milwaukee and Dr. Mark L. BROWN of Fort Atkinson, Wis., and a half sister, Mrs. Dolly BENNETT of Lima, Wis., survive her.
Mrs. ALLEN was a firm believer in God as her Father and in Jesus Christ her Saviour.
In her girlhood she publicly confessed Christ and became a member of the Seventh-day [Baptist] church of Berlin, Wis. Later her membership was transferred to the Utica church and then to the church of her faith at Milton Junction.
September 26, 1877, she was united in marriage to Asher D. ALLEN. The first three
years of their married life was spent at Utica, Wis. They then moved to the farm east of Milton which was their home until six years ago when they moved to Milton Junction which has since been their home.
For more than four years Mrs. ALLEN has been in failing health, part of the time
being confined to the house. She never completely rallied from a severe illness which prostrated her a year ago. On the morning of October 5, 1916, she entered into rest leaving in loneliness and sorrow her husband who has so tenderly cared for her in her days of sickness and distress.
Farewell services were held at her late home Sabbath afternoon, October 7, 1916.
Rev. George W. Burdick, a close friend of the family and former pastor of Mrs. ALLEN, assisted the pastor, Rev. Henry N. Jordan, in the services at the house and the grave. Burial was in the cemetery at Milton Junction. [Thursday edition, p. 1]

Martha C[ordelia] BUTEN, daughter of Frederick and Mary Ann EDWARDS
BUTEN, was born March 8, 1837, at Genesee, N.Y., and died in Walworth, Wis., at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Jennie LARKIN, October 5, 1916, aged 79 years and 8 months. She was the second in a family of nine children, three own brothers, and five half brothers and sisters. One brother, Francis, was killed in the battle of Gettysburg.
"Aunt Mattie", as she was familiarly called, came west with her parents about sixty
years ago and Milton Junction has been her home most of the time since. She was married to B. Frank CLARKE Dec. 25, 1857, and to this union were born , Stella, Jennie and Lulu, the eldest and youngest of which preceded her to the home beyond.
Mrs. CLARKE was a firm believer in God and his love and mercy, and a faithful
worker in his cause. She was converted and baptized at Milton in early life and upon coming to make her home with C. C. CLARKE at Milton Junction, she became a member of the Milton Junction S.D.B. church. Later her membership was transferred to Walworth.
She has been in failing health for the past two years and death came as a welcome
guest to relieve her of her sufferings. She leaves to mourn her departure, besides her daughter, Mrs. Jennie LARKIN, who has been so faithful in caring for her in her last days, one brother, F. Clinton BUTEN, one half brother, Geo. W. BUTEN, four grandchildren and one great grandchild and a large circle of friends.
The funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon, conducted by
Pastor Loofbourrow and interment was in the Walworth cemetery.
Mrs. G. W. BUTEN and daughter, Mrs. Linda COON, and family of Wauconda, Ill.,
were among those who attended the funeral. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
