Milton Journal-Telephone

October 1918

Milton Junction, Milton Twp., Rock County, Wisconsin

17
Nina Myrtle COON was born at Utica, Wis., September 22, 1889. She was the
fourth child born to George W. and Adelle WHITFORD COON. The family moved to Milton Junction in 1892. She graduated from the Milton Junction high school in 1910 and in the fall of 1911 she entered the nurse's training course at Hahnemann Hospital, Chicago, graduating in 1914. She had a busy life in her chosen work of caring for the sick, for over three years, as her skillful and sympathetic services were much in demand.
On October 2, 1917, she was married to Fred C. BURDICK of Chicago. They
have enjoyed a year of very happy wedded life together. After their recent pleasant visit at the home of her father in Milton Junction, she was taken ill with Spanish influenza, on the first anniversary of her wedding. She had a premonition that she would not recover, and on October 10, 1918, the immortal spirit departed from the disease racked body.
With several girl friends, Nina was baptized in early life, by Elder George
CRANDALL, and joined the Milton Junction S.D.B. church. She has lived a noble, unselfish life, and woven herself deftly into the affections of those who knew her. Her mingling of the ministry of healing with spiritual fellowship and service reminds us of her master.
Her tender ministrations have been given to all the different homes of the family circle.
Her untiring care of her father in his critical illness, had much to do with the turning of the scale back to health.
She was an earnest christian and her service was an expression of rare and beautiful
love.
For ten weeks during each of the last two summers she has been on the staff of the
Daily News Sanitarium, caring for the sick babies of the poor.
Funeral services at the home of her parents at Milton Junction, October 14, were
conducted by Rev. L. C. Randolph, Text, John 3:16. "For God so loved the world the He gave His only begotten son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish, but have everlasting life." [Thursday edition, p. 1]

Harriet Belle PARKS was born September 26, 1885, at Newville, near Lake
Koshkonong, and died October 1, 1918 at the same place.
She graduated from the Milton Junction high school in 1905, and taught successfully
for several years.
She was married March 18, 1914, to Henry E. PIERCE. She gave herself to Christ
early in life and was a member of the Edgerton M. E. church at the time of her death. Hers was a beautiful life - always doing, caring for and giving for others. She will be sadly missed in her community. She leaves to mourn a mother, two sisters, and a loving husband.
The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the home and the Edgerton M. E.
church, conducted by her pastor and music was furnished by Mrs. Edward HULL and Miss Corinne CRANDALL of Milton Junction. The many beautiful flowers attested to the esteem in which she was held. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
