- Announcement was made last week of the death of Mrs. Delia
ESTEE [nee Delia E.
- SWEET] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith SHEPPARD
at Alfred, N.Y., Wednesday, September 21.
- Mrs. ESTEE was 90 years old last January. For many
years she was a resident of
- Milton. Her first husband Delos CRANDALL was a wagon
maker by trade and for years conducted a shop where the DUNN
store is located. He died from heart disease in 1879. After his
death she conducted a student's boarding house.
- While engaged in this work she made a large number of friends
among the students,
- for "Aunt Deal" as she was affectionately called
by the boys and girls and other friends was something more than
a boarding house keeper. Her house was made a home for those
who were away from home and she cared for them as though they
were her own boys and girls.
- Later she married Deacon Henry ESTEE, who preceded
her to the better land.
- Early in life she became a member of the S.D.B. Church and
was a loyal member,
- faithful in service, and went about doing good, and her influence
will be felt for years to those who knew her.
- The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. H.
N. Jordan officiating. Those
- from out of town who attended were: Mrs. Edith SHEPPARD
and son Mark, Alfred, N.Y., Bert POTTER and two daughters,
Whitewater; Mrs. Evaline WENTWORTH, Edgerton; Mr. and
Mrs. D. J. McCLAY; Mrs. J. C. McCLAY, Rock Prairie;
and Mrs. May CUNNINGHAM, Janesville. [Thursday edition,
