Milton Journal-Telephone

January 1921

Milton Junction, Milton Twp., Rock County, Wisconsin

29
Announcement was made last week of the death of Mrs. Delia ESTEE [nee Delia E.
SWEET] at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith SHEPPARD at Alfred, N.Y., Wednesday, September 21.
Mrs. ESTEE was 90 years old last January. For many years she was a resident of
Milton. Her first husband Delos CRANDALL was a wagon maker by trade and for years conducted a shop where the DUNN store is located. He died from heart disease in 1879. After his death she conducted a student's boarding house.
While engaged in this work she made a large number of friends among the students,
for "Aunt Deal" as she was affectionately called by the boys and girls and other friends was something more than a boarding house keeper. Her house was made a home for those who were away from home and she cared for them as though they were her own boys and girls.
Later she married Deacon Henry ESTEE, who preceded her to the better land.
Early in life she became a member of the S.D.B. Church and was a loyal member,
faithful in service, and went about doing good, and her influence will be felt for years to those who knew her.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. H. N. Jordan officiating. Those
from out of town who attended were: Mrs. Edith SHEPPARD and son Mark, Alfred, N.Y., Bert POTTER and two daughters, Whitewater; Mrs. Evaline WENTWORTH, Edgerton; Mr. and Mrs. D. J. McCLAY; Mrs. J. C. McCLAY, Rock Prairie; and Mrs. May CUNNINGHAM, Janesville. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
