- John Benton CRANDALL, 71, resident of Milton Junction
and vicinity for 44 years,
- died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday in his home here after having
been in failing health for two years. He had been confined to
his bed the past two weeks.
- Mr. CRANDALL was born in Walworth, May 19, 1862, the
oldest son of Roswell
- and Juliette CRANDALL, and when a year old went with
his parents to Transit, Sibley county, Minn. During his boyhood
there he experienced the hardships of pioneer life. He returned
to Walworth at the age of 12 and lived there until employment
took him to Utica, Wis. There he married Addie WHITFORD,
younger daughter of John and Jane BURDICK WHITFORD
in April, 1884. In the winter of 1891 they moved into their newly
completed home in Milton Junction. This was the beginning of
a wide circle of friends and acquaintances contacted throughout
this community and surrounding vicinity as he followed his trade
of painting and paperhanging.
- At the age of 16, Mr. CRANDALL was baptized by Elder
LIVORMORE at Lake
- Geneva and joined the Seventh Day Baptist church in Walworth.
After coming to Milton Junction he transferred his membership
to the local Seventh Day Baptist church and for many years was
a member of the choir.
- He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Bernice, at
home, Mrs. Winifred
- BRADFORD, Pontiac, Mich., and Mrs. Flora DeLONG,
Reedsburg; one brother, Sherman L. CRANDALL of Brodhead;
and three sisters, Mrs. E. O. CRANDALL and Mrs. George
E. COON, both of Milton Junction, and Mrs. F. O. BURDICK,
Boulder, Colo.
- An only grandchild, John BRADFORD, died Dec. 29, 1932.
Fred J. CRANDALL,
- Albion, and Jessie L. JACOBS, Miami, Fla., had a home
with this family for many years.
- The funeral was held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the home, with
the Rev. J. F. Randolph,
- Seventh Day Baptist church, officiating, assisted by Prof.
Edwin Shaw of Milton college. The pallbearers were six nephews:
Eldon CRANDALL, Battle Creek, Mich., Ross COON,
Robert GREENE and Prof. Leland SHAW, all of Milton;
Dr. Wallace COON, Walworth; and Carroll L. COON,
Janesville. Burial was in Milton Junction cemetery.
- Out of town relatives who attended were S. L. CRANDALL
and Mrs. Fyrne
- AYRES, Brodhead; Dr. and Mrs. W. W. COON, Roy
CRANDALL, Mr. and Mrs. Guy CONVERSE and Mrs. D.

- Funeral services for Mrs. Geo. O. SAYRE, Milton, who
died suddenly Aug. 23rd,
- were held over to Monday to enable her sons A. Gerald SAYRE
of Cornwall, N.J., and G. Merton SAYRE, who was visiting
at Riverside, Calif., to attend.
- Rev. Carroll L. Hill assisted by Dr. Edwin Shaw, officiated
at the services which were
- held at the house at 2 o'clock and at the congregational
church at 2:30. A male quartet sang three selections. Burial
was in Milton cemetery with the following as pallbearers, T.
I. PLACE, Dr. A. L. BURDICK, Rolland MAXSON,
Fred CRANDALL, W. M. LANPHERE and W. K. DAVIS.
- Relatives from out of town in attendance were Will BARNHART,
Miss Edith
- BARNHART and Mrs. Stanley BARNHART, Oconomowoc;
Mr. and Mrs. L. A. CLARKE, Edgerton; Mr. and Mrs. Chas.
SAYRE, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice SAYRE, Mr. and Mrs.
Elmer LOOFBORO, Albion; Miss Leona SAYRE, North
Loup, Neb.; Mrs. Dora BARNHART, Pinehurst sanitarium,
Janesville.
- Florence, youngest child of Emily CLARKE BARNHART,
was born in Fulton
- township on July 28, 1875. She was married to George SAYRE
on Oct. 1, 1895, and lived in this vicinity all but the one year
spent at Nortonville, Kans.
- Early in life she became a member of the Milton Seventh Day
Baptist church, having
- been baptized by Rev. Wm. C. WHITFORD, and was active
in its affiliated organizations as long as health permitted.
During their residence on the farm she was active in W.C.T.U.
of Harmony township.
- She was musically inclined and along about 1893-95 belonged
to a ladies quartet
- which furnished music for social gatherings, funerals and
religious services. The other members, Anna JORDAN, Leo
COON and Susan B. DAVIS, survive.
- With her husband, five children survive - A. Gerald of Cornwall,
N.Y., Mrs. Leslie
- BENNETT of Edgerton, G. Merton SAYRE, N.M.,
Mrs. Stuart SHADEL of Milton Junction and Paul at home.
Two children preceded her, Vivian who died in infancy and Rolland
who passed away eleven years ago. Two sisters Mrs. Luella BOSS
and Mrs. George SAUNDERS of Milton survive. A sister Clara
and a brother George passed away a number of years ago. [Thursday
