Funeral services for Dr. Ella [Josephine] SMART, who died Saturday in Valley City,
N.D., were held in the Milton S.D.B. church Tuesday afternoon with burial in Milton cemetery. Rev. W. D. Burdick officiated and was assisted by Dr. Edwin B. Shaw. Kenneth BABCOCK, accompanied by Betty DALAND, sang "City Four Square" and "Lead Kindly Light." Pallbearers were Ross COON, Wallace COON, Robert PLUMB, Lawrence PLUMB, Walter ROGERS and A. M. PAUL. [Note: Ella was the daughter of Albert CLARKE & Elvira Anabella (GREENE) CLARKE; her first husband was William Henry CRANDALL and her second Arthur Hodge SMART. She died on October 5, 1945.]

Mrs. J. B. BENNETT, who was stricken with a cerebral hemorrhage at her home
on Whitewater street, Milton, Friday afternoon while visiting with a friend, died the following afternoon.
Dollie [Zulena] BROWN, daughter of Jeremiah and Mary BRACE BROWN, was
born Oct. 18, 1870, at Berlin, Wis. Her father died when she was two years old, and seven years later her mother brought her and her two brothers to Milton. For a time they lived on the Alya BROWN farm, later moving to Milton village. She attended Milton academy. On Aug. 20, 1890 she married James Brayley BENNETT of Lima and they lived on the BENNETT farm until 1918 when they moved to another farm southeast of Milton, and in 1923 they moved into the village.
Survivors are her husband; seven daughters, Zela, at home, Geneva (Mrs. Harry
TALBOT) Eugene, Ore., Mizpah, teacher in Janesville, Ardis, a nurse at Orthopedic hospital, Madison, Constance (Mrs. SUTTON) Madison, Dorothy (Mrs. Walter F. NEILS) Milton, Clarice (Mrs. Harold C. BURDICK) Kansas City, Mo.; two sons, Leslie, Edgerton, and Harold, Denver, Colo. Thirteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her brothers preceded her in death, Dr. Mark and Phillip S. BROWN.
Mrs. BENNETT was a member of the Milton S.D.B. church for more than 50 years,
and a member of the church circle. She was devoted to her home and family, and found great pleasure in entertaining young people, especially students of Milton college. She was a great lover of nature and spent much time with her garden and flowers.
Funeral services were held at the Milton S.D.B. church, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. The
Rev. Elmo F. Randolph officiating. Music was furnished by a male quartet: Kenneth BABCOCK, Edward ROOD, Donald GRAY and the Rev. Elmo F. RANDOLPH, with Miss Betty DALAND, Organist. Burial was in Milton cemetery with [pallbearers] William D. BURDICK, Russell BURDICK, Ross COON, Howard DRAKE, Victor HURLEY and Byron ROOD.

BENNETT, Racine; Mr. and Mrs. Harvey CONSIDINE, Mrs. James SPRACKLING, Mrs. Cora SCHUMACHER, Miss Teresa BAKER, Mrs. Evadue ELEY, Janesville; Mr. and Mrs. Will BENNETT, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene GODFREY, and Mr. and Mrs. Robert GODFREY, Whitewater. Mrs. A. S. MAXSON, Milton Junction, died early Wednesday in her home at 10 E.
Madison avenue following a long illness.
Daniel C. and Amorilla COLLINS BABCOCK came from Alfred, N.Y., settled in
the territory of Wisconsin and their only child was born Jan. 8, 1857, in Johnstown. She was named Lois Catherine after her grandmothers but as she was so small and dainty she was called Dollie which later became her legal name.
When her father became ill, the family moved to San Jose, Calif., where Dollie
graduated from the San Jose state college in 1876, our country's centennial year. In keeping with the year, the girl graduates wore curls and colonial styled costumes. Following the death of her father, she and her mother came to Milton where on April 4, 1882, she married Dr. Albert Sylvanus MAXSON. They first located in Baraboo, but early in 1883 they moved to Motley, Minn., where the doctor continued his practice until 1885 and then they came to Milton Junction. He died her Nov. 7, 1940.
Mrs. MAXSON was a member of the S.D.B. church nearly all her life and took
active part in its work as long as she was able. Her husband was active in the development of the local telephone company, and her grandfather Daniel C. BABCOCK, Sr., founded the Milton college library.
Surviving are two daughters, Miss Mabel MAXSON, Milton Junction, and Mrs.
Chester D. NEWMAN, Milwaukee, who came to the MAXSON home as a daughter in 1913; a grandson, Corp. James NEWMAN, who is en route home from Germany; and other relatives, especially a nephew who was like a son in the family, Dr. Frank MAXSON, Milwaukee. Two children died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held in the Maxson home at 2 p. m. Friday and in the S.D.B.
church at 2:30, Rev. Orville W. BABCOCK officiating. Burial will be in Milton Junction cemetery. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
