Mrs. Fred M. GRAY, who was taken to Mercy hospital for treatment Jan. 28, died
Jan. 30 at 12:30 p.m. She had been in failing health for several years and seriously ill several times within the past year.
Jessie [M.] FOX, second daughter of Charles W. and Rosalie BALL FOX, was
born in North Johnstown Aug. 28, 1884. She attended school there and when the family moved to Milton Junction in January, 1900, she continued her schooling here.
On Nov. 8, 1905, she married Fred M. GRAY of Milton Junction, and they lived on
a farm on the River road for many years, coming to Milton Junction about three years ago.
Hers was a busy life, her hours being well filled with family cares and household duties.
She was a devoted and loyal wife, a wise and loving mother, a good friend and neighbor. She possessed a noble character and shaped her life in accordance with high moral principles, and desired always to make a worthy contribution to life. She was a member of Friendship chapter, O.E.S.
She is survived by her husband; six sons Charles, Elwood, Clarence, Walter and
Merton of Milton Junction, and Marion of Beloit; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry KNIGHT, Fort Atkinson route 3 and Mrs. Robert HESSELMAN, Milton Junction; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Walter COCKERILL and Mrs. Chester HERRINGTON of Milton Junction; and a large circle of neighbors and friends. One sister, Mrs. Louis EMERSON preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Phelps funeral home and at
2:00 p.m. in the Milton Junction Methodist church, with the Rev. W. S. Carr officiating. His text was the first half of the 16th verse of the 103rd Psalm.
Victor LOOFBORO and Mrs. Geo. RUSCH sang Mrs. GRAY's favorite songs
"The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden."
The Eastern Star conducted the last rites for their beloved Sister. Burial was in the
family lot in Milton cemetery, the six sons acting as pallbearers.
Out of town relatives and friends attending included Louis EMERSON, Albion;
Walter BALL and sons, Leland and Edward, Marshall, Mich.; Ole FLISTER, Mr. and Mrs. Ray BREWSTER, Mr. and Mrs. Freedly CUNNINGHAM, Mr. and Mrs. Joe ATTLESEY, Edgerton; George, Charles and Will LEONARD, Fort Atkinson; Mr. and Mrs. Norris BARR, Mrs. Ora BARR, Mr. and Mrs. Ed LOOZE, Earl PHILLIPS of Beloit. Mrs. Oliver CRANDALL, who has been in poor health the past five years, died
Tuesday morning in her home at 33 N. Janesville street, Milton Junction. She had been up and around their house most of the time and had even been up that morning.
Emma [Elizabeth] SERNS was born June 21, 1862, in the town of Oakland, Jefferson
county, and on Arbor Day in 1891 she married Oliver CRANDALL. They lived in Oakland until 1901 when they came to their present home in Milton Junction.
Mrs. CRANDALL was member of the Seventh-day Adventist church at Oakland
until they moved here and then she transferred to this church. She liked flowers and raised some beautiful house plants. For a number of years until her health would no longer permit, she spent her spare time making beautiful braided rugs.
She is survived by her husband, a brother, Charles SERNS of Sparta, and other
relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. today (Thursday) in the Phelps funeral home
with Elder A. G. Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Milton Junction cemetery, with J. E. MARSHALL, Geo. CRANDALL Jr., M. E. HARRINGTON and George PALMER acting as pallbearers. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
