- Sarah Gertrude EDWARDS was born
in New Market, N.J., February 28, 1843.
- She was converted and united with the
New Market church when about twelve years of age.
- She was married to Frederick C. BUTEN
about twenty-nine years ago. For a number
- of years she, with her family resided
in Milton Junction. She was a constituent member of the Milton
Junction S.D.B. church and lived in fellowship with that church
till released by death. For a number of years past she has resided
in Morgan Park, Ill, where death found her, Sunday, February
3, 1895. She leaves a husband and two children to mourn her loss,
and surely they have sustained a great loss in her death. Sister
BUTEN was possessed of a genial, self-sacrificing nature
by means of which she had many friends.
- Funeral services were held at the Milton
Junction S.D.B. church at 2 p.m. February 7,
- conducted by E. A. Witter, assisted
by Pastor G. W. Burdick and L. C. Randolph. [Thursday edition,
p. 5]
-
- [Note: Sarah's maiden name was DUNHAM;
"EDWARDS" above was probably an error]
- Mrs. Martha WILLIAMS, wife of
Caleb V. WELLS, died at her late residence,
- February 5, aged seventy-five years,
eight months and thirteen days.
- She was born Darien, N.Y., and came
to Milton in 1852. About a year later she was
- married to Mr. WELLS. Besides
a husband bereft, she leaves a son and a daughter, two brothers
and a sister to mourn the loss of a faithful wife, a loving mother
and an affectionate sister. She was a faithful Christian in all
the relations of life, and was a member of the Milton S.D.B.
church. She was not lacking in any of the qualifications that
combine to make a helpful companion, and a home all that can
be desired. It was a very cold day that quite a large number
of relatives and friends rode out to her commodious and spacious
home and there joined in the service conducted by her pastor
previous to depositing the remains in the village cemetery. "Blessed
are the dead who die in the Lord."
