Milton Journal

July 1898

Milton, Milton Twp., Rock County, Wisconsin

27
Alanson COON was born in Plainfield, New York, Aug. 4, 1809 and died in Milton
Junction, Wis., July 25, 1898.
He was the son of Daniel and Rhoda COON and was one of nine children. His
parents were among the leading citizens of the community in which they lived, possessing those qualities of character common to the age and circumstances of their times, viz, industry, integrity and frugality. These qualities they transmited to their children, thereby fitting them for a good degree of success in business.
Jan 16, 1835, Mr. COON was married to July A. PALMITER with whom he lived
44 years, her death occuring May 9, 1879. To them were born two children, Herbert W. COON, residing in Janesville, Wis., and Nettie J. who resided with her father.
A little more than 30 years after his marriage he continued to reside in the vicinity of
his birth, but in 1867 he removed his family to Wisconsin near Milton Junction and engaged in farming until advanced age demanded a change, when he sold his farm and moved into the village.
His health had been failing for several years, finally resulting in a shock of paralysis a
few days before his death from which he could not rally.
The funeral occurred from his late residence at 2 o'clock and from the S.D.B. church
at 2:30 this (Wednesday) afternoon conducted by Rev. G. W. BURDICK. [Wednesday edition, p. 1]
