- In Milton, Wis., Dec. 14th, 1863, of
consumption, James McHenry CHASE, aged
- 19 years. The deceased was a member
of Company E, of the 38th Iowa Regiment of Volunteers. He took
part in the siege of Vicksburg, but was soon laid up with erysipelas
in his feet. He went with his regiment to New Orleans, where
he obtained a furlough, and came home. His disease soon ran
into consumption, which terminated his life. A short time before
his death, he enlisted under the banner of the cross, and died
in the triumphs of faith, shouting victory as he went. [Vol.
