- In Milton, Wis., March 4th, 1868, at
the residence of his son-in-law, E. P. CLARKE,
- of pneumonia, Enos W. PECK,
Esq., aged 78 years. Esquire PECK was born in Cumberland
Co., N.J., from whence he removed to Unadilla Forks, N.Y., in
the year 1827, where he resided for over twenty years, respected
and honored by all who knew him. For the last eleven years, he
resided at Milton. A good man has been gathered to his fathers,
in a ripe old age. [Vol. 24, No. 12, p. 7]
- In Farina, Ill., on the 8th of March,
1868, very suddenly, of what was supposed to be
- disease of the heart, Mrs. Harriet
L[ucinda] VINCENT, wife of Edward VINCENT, Esq.,
and daughter of Henry B. CRANDALL, of Milton, Wis., aged
37 years. Mrs. V. was a much esteemed friend and neighbor,
and had secured the confidence of all, by her kindness and womanly
deportment. Up to the morning of her death, she had been in
her usual health and cheerfulness of spirits. As she arose
from her bed, she was seized with violent coughing, and complained
of a sense of suffocation. All the aid of friends and physicians
was unavailing; in about twenty minutes from the first attack
she sank in death. The suddenness and severity of the stroke
is very heavy on the husband and three children who are thus
called to mourn her loss. She had never made a public profession
of religion, but had often expressed her full belief in its importance
and divine reality, and had within a few months been known to
pray earnestly for a practical interest in the Saviour of sinners.
"Boast not thyself of tomorrow, for thou knowest not what
a day may bring forth." C. M. L. [Vol. 24,
No. 12, p. 47]
