- At Milton, Wis., Jan. 12th, 1881, Abel
S. BABCOCK, aged 80 years and 9 months.
- He had lived in the West over 40 years.
He was a ripe Christian, a great reader of the Bible, with which
he was very familiar. We shall miss him in the church and in
the community. He was highly esteemed by all, and justly so.
He buried his wife over eight years ago, with whom he had lived
about 50 years. He leaves behind seven children, five having
gone on before him. His memory will be fresh and pleasant in
our hearts for a long time to come. He was a strict observer
and ardent advocate of the Sabbath, and always had an argumentative
blade with a keen edge ready drawn for an encounter with any
minister or layman who taught and practiced contrary to the fourth
commandment. His funeral was held in the church where he attended,
on Sabbath-day, Jan 15th, and was largely attended. In the absence
of the pastor, Rev. T. R. WILLIAMS, D. D., and Elder James
BAILEY officiated. Uncle Abel was a conscientious and
a good man, and has gone to his reward. E. M. D. [Vol. 37,
