- Clinton - Retired Grocer Carl C. MURRAY Dies in Clinton
- Carl Chapin MURRAY, 84, retired Beloit grocer and
utility company worker, and a
- resident of Clinton for many years, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday
in his home here following a long illness.
- Mr. MURRAY, a native of Turtle township, was associated
with Frank JOHNSON
- in the operation of the MURRAY and JOHNSON
grocery in Beloit for 20 years. He later was employed by the
Beloit office of the Wisconsin Power & Light company.
- Carl Chapin MURRAY was born Sept. 6, 1871, in Turtle
township, the son of
- Charles and Lucy CHAPIN MURRAY. He was educated
in the MURRAY rural school east of Beloit and attended
the old Beloit academy.
- Mr. MURRAY married Eliza STURTEVANT in 1895
at Delavan. She died in
- 1928, and he married Mrs. Emeline HATCH, Jan. 9, 1937
at Clinton.
- He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and
a member of the Clinton
- Presbyterian church.
- Surviving are his wife and a niece, Miss Orpha THOMPSON
of Beloit.
- Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the
Snyder and Wood funeral home
- in Clinton with the Rev. Russell PETERSON officiating.
Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beloit. Friends may call
at the funeral home Friday evening.
