Clinton - Retired Grocer Carl C. MURRAY Dies in Clinton
Carl Chapin MURRAY, 84, retired Beloit grocer and utility company worker, and a
resident of Clinton for many years, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday in his home here following a long illness.
Mr. MURRAY, a native of Turtle township, was associated with Frank JOHNSON
in the operation of the MURRAY and JOHNSON grocery in Beloit for 20 years. He later was employed by the Beloit office of the Wisconsin Power & Light company.
Carl Chapin MURRAY was born Sept. 6, 1871, in Turtle township, the son of
Charles and Lucy CHAPIN MURRAY. He was educated in the MURRAY rural school east of Beloit and attended the old Beloit academy.
Mr. MURRAY married Eliza STURTEVANT in 1895 at Delavan. She died in
1928, and he married Mrs. Emeline HATCH, Jan. 9, 1937 at Clinton.
He was a life member of the Knights of Pythias lodge and a member of the Clinton
Presbyterian church.
Surviving are his wife and a niece, Miss Orpha THOMPSON of Beloit.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday at the Snyder and Wood funeral home
in Clinton with the Rev. Russell PETERSON officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood cemetery, Beloit. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday evening.
