George H. TREWYN, Jr., age 80 went home to the Lord Saturday evening June 11, 2005 at his
home in Lakewood, WI.
He was born March 18, 1925 in Janesville, WI, to the late George and Margaret (TIFFANY)
TREWYN.
George grew up in southern WI until the outbreak of WWII when he enlisted into the Marine
Corps. He served valiantly in the “Pacific Theater” as a paratrooper with the Marine 4th Div. For his actions he received several awards including two Purple Hearts and the Silver Star.
After his discharge, George returned to the Milwaukee area where he met and married LaVerne
BALKE in 1950. In 1960 the couple moved to Oshkosh where George established his own business – the American Sewing Center which he operated until 1995. They then moved to Lakewood.
Throughout his life George was very active in veteran’s affairs. He was active in the Marine Corps
League as a life member and past Senior Vice-Commandant, the AMVETS as a life member and as the past State Commander; the American Legion, DAV and the Order of the Purple Heart. He was also the past president of the Nicolet Chapter of AARP.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 55 years, LaVerne TREWYN, 2 sons: Randall
(Joyce) TREWYN of Oshkosh, Ricardo TREWYN, Oshkosh, two sisters: Donna (Russ) KASNICK, Missouri, Margaret Jane (Al) SHANKLIN of Oregon, WI, four brothers: Allen (Jeanne) TREWYN, Montello, WI, Willard TREWYN, Janesville, Victor (Karen) TREWYN, Janesville, Francis TREWYN, Janesville. Two grandchildren: Jay and Elizabeth, three step grandchildren: Dehlia, Darlene and Tianna, eight step great-grandchildren: Antonio, Jeffry, Jesse, Kendra, Devin, Donovan, Austin & Jaden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Robert, Donald, and Harold; and a
daughter-in-law Betty TREWYN.
The visitation is on Wed. June 15 at St. John Lutheran Church, Townsend from 5 to 8 p.m. and
on Thursday June 16 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10 a.m. A graveside service will be held at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, Oshkosh. Suminski Funeral Home assisting the family with arrangements
