- Departed this life on the morning of
Nov. 21st, 1885, after a long illness, Mary Jane
- PECK,
wife of E. P. CLARKE, aged 67 years. The deceased was
born in New Jersey in [June 24] 1818. She came to Milton with
her husband and family in 1856, where she has always resided
until removed by death to a better land. She was quiet and retiring
in her habits. Her highest ambition was to make her home more
attractive to her husband and children than any other place,
and in this her very laudable ambition was gratified.
- The funeral services were held at the
family residence, and by her request were
- conducted by the Rev. James Baily,
an old and valued friend and her first pastor, assisted by Rev.
W. C. Whitford, Rev. E. M. Dunn. Her friendships were true. She
filled well her life's mission, and died in hope of a better
life. Her children rise up and call her blessed: her husband
honors her memory and all feel that a true and honored life has
gone out while its fragrance remains. [Thursday edition, p.
