- Died: of dropsy and heart failure on
Christmas morning at her residence, Mrs. Phebe
- WILCOX
SAUNDERS wife of Deacon Truman SAUNDERS, aged 72
years, 11 months 19 days.
- It was hoped that Mrs. SAUNDERS
would recover from her illness, but death came
- sooner than was expected even by those
who had fears she might not recover. The diseased was a women
of great executive ability and possessed of a gifted and cultivated
mind. She was educated at Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy,
N.Y. She was married to Mr. SAUNDERS in 1844. They moved
to West Hallock, Ill., in 1854, where after 25 years of industry,
economy and benevolence they accumulated a large and valuable
estate and reared and educated a family of six children five
of whom are still living. She came here to reside over 14 years
ago, where through her consistent christian life her activity
and in every good cause a quite aeffectivuate demeanor, she had
endeared herself to the hearts of all. The church, the W.C.T.U
and the community realize they have lost a valuable member. She
did not fear the approach of death, was living to live or die
as best pleased her beloved Father. She will be greatly missed
by all, but what is Milton's loss is Heaven's gain. [Thursday
