- The funeral services of Mrs. Jane PIERCE
were held last Saturday the 11th, inst., at
- the home of her son, Samuel Stennett
PIERCE, on Thiebeau point, in Koshkonong Lake. They
were conducted by President Whitford of Milton College, excellent
singing was furnished by the Milton Lady Quartet. A large number
of relatives, neighbors and old settlers were present. Interment
took place in the cemetery at Milton Junction. Death occurred
from paralysis induced by general debility from which deceased
had suffered over two years.
- Mrs. PIERCE's maiden name was
Jane HALL, and she was born in the town of
- Chili, Monroe county, New York, nearly
76 years ago. Here she married Russel BOWERS and four
years after this event, the couple moved to Wisconsin, and settled
in the town of Lima, Rock county. To them were born at least
two children, one of them being Wilson BOWERS, who resides
in Iowa, having married a daughter of Orrin and Almira VINCENT,
both deceased, at Rock river. Russel BOWERS died about
forty-eight years since at Newville, Wis., and his widow married
about five years afterward, Samuel Stennett PIERCE, and
resided most of her remaining life on Thiebeau point, losing
by death her second husband Feb. 26, 1882. To them were born
two surviving sons, the older mentioned at the beginning of this
article, and the younger, Herbert Lewis PIERCE, now living
at Ft. Atkinson. With the former she has made her home since
the death of Mr. PIERCE. She was a woman of marked industry,
highly respected by her acquaintances and exceedingly interested
in her family. [Thursday edition, p. 1]
