- Borne down by a nervous disease from
which she had [been] given no relief and
- discouraged from suffering Mrs. Minnie
VINCENT [nee Mary Ellen DOUGLASS], wife of James
VINCENT, took strychnine Sunday and the end came before
medical assistance arrived. At about eleven o'clock Mrs. VINCENT
summoned Mrs. RICHMOND, a neighbor, and told her she had
taken the poison lotion. Physicians were summoned and soon reached
the VINCENT home, but not until death had come.
- For a long time Mrs. VINCENT
had been suffering from a nervous malady, and a
- number of weeks ago went to the home
of her father, Andrew DOUGLASS, at Rock Prairie, where
it was hoped by her family and friends that the change and quiet
and rest would bring relief to the sufferer. Mr. VINCENT
was taken sick a short time ago, and his wife returned home.
The malady remained with her, however, and indeed had become
more severe.
- This condition continued until the
sad act of Sunday.
- Mrs. VINCENT was a most estimable
woman. She was devoted to her family. Her
- husband and children - two daughters,
aged eight and two years - were the subject of conversations
in which she frequently evidenced her affection for them and
their tenderness for her. To them the blow is a hard one.
- The funeral was held at the residence
Tuesday at 2 o'clock, conducted by Revs. Huey
- and North. The attendance was very
large, many unable to gain admittance to the house, gathered
on the lawn and sorrowfully paid the last tribute of love and
respect to her who at last has found rest. [Thursday edition,
